I have a flowmaster 40 and it has a turn down before the rear axle. I like it, but will be getting a cat-back soon.

I dumped my stock exhaust at the natural turn down after the axel. You can't see the exhaust at all from the back, and no need for a turn down tip.

It is not louder, but the tone is slightly different, very slightly deeper. Barely noticeable. I think this is because of resonance off of the ground, compared to the sound being directed out the side of the truck. Does that make sense?
