OK, DAN here, and tried searching for some info (probably not very well) on cat-back exhaust systems. The stock replacement one I have is rusty toast after about 6 years and I need a new one. Does anyone have anything they like? I'm hesitant to go with another steel exhaust and am leaning stainless. So far I've found AFE/Flowmaster/Borla/JBA/Gibson/Magnaflow. I don't think TRD makes one (anymore?) for our trucks. The prices vary significantly from about $375(JBA/AFE) up to about $575 for the Borla and Magnaflow.

any recommendations for fit and sound? would like a little more bite out of the back, but nothing annoying.

I would go custom with new headers and spintech 9000 for deep sound. Im planning on doing that setup once my lift is to some sort of standard.

Is the whole stock cat back rusty or is it just the muffler?

whole cat back is shot and not really looking forward to digging that o2 sensor out of what's left of it.
I thought about doing custom, but my truck is stock-ish and I really need to get this thing up and running again.
    a kit would be best.

My SS Magnaflow catback sounds good off idle. Beyond that, it is trying too hard to be something it is not. Towing my trailer is way too loud.

If you get a muffler and sound like a ricer, your Tacoma card is revoked :D

That being said when I replaced mine years ago just went with a Walker Quiet-Flow

I cheaped-out and just got a total cat-back kit made by Bosal from Autozone. Lifetime warranty and $130.96 - shipped (with coupon cost USA20)
hard to argue with that, esp. when the next cheapest option is $200 more.
