Magpul for bears? Who's the heck is bringing an AR for bear defense?

I mean personally I bring a .357 or my .45, and neither of them use a plastic magazine.

I will have to check the shown out though .

I've never shot at a bear. But I imagine a mag worth of mk262 out of my AR will do just fine.

You said it right there. Personal pref. You can kill a bear with a knife if you posses the stones large enough. You can kill one with a rock. You like 357 and 45. I like 9mm and .223. Maybe someone overlands with a 50 bmg in case of bears idk but who cares? These gun debates (like political debates) are always pointless because no one has the right answer for everyone.

Right. My point was more of when in the woods more often than not we carry a backup sidearm, a lever action, or a shot gun. It's not typically common to carry a 5.56 platform. At that length there's better suited forms of deffnse.

Agreed. I was speaking more towards magpul being regarded as a having to do with a bear defense market. Use what you have by all means. But outside of a 10mm and 9mm handgun, most firearms that accept magpul magazines aren't commonly carried as bear guns.

Are they, yes. More often than not, no.

It's a cool show. They made some odd choices in gear, but I'm sure the sponsors have some say in what they bring. I do enjoy watching it. I check the website every once in awhile to see what's up. I'm sure I'll watch the next series.

I don't think anyone was saying that bear defense is the reason for their involvement in overlanding (to get back on topic). Shit loads of veterans and wannabe military overland. Most of these people will have a weapon or two. Many will have glocks and ar15's (because they are a "practical" choice in fire arms). Magpul is very smart for doing this. Maybe they will start making overland crap? I love magpul stuff it got that "american made" quality. I would buy some magpul maxtraxs (because they wouln't be 300 fucking dollars for 2), magpul cooler, magpul recovery gear? Whatever the case may be they make quality products that are not retarded expensive like some of their competition. For example the handguards on my service rifle where 280 bucks. Then you need handguard peices for everything you put your hand on. Magpul handguards which are quality, ergonomic, and lighter i might add are 30 bucks. I can go on and on. But i think it's a good way for magpul to break into another market.

But don't ask me I'm no doctor.

    @SandTaco138

This was the bear comment i was referring too

    This.

"One of my biggest gripes is their recent sponsor Magpul which has defense contracts with our military to supply magazines for rifles.

I know Magpul is supplying clothing to these guys, but why bring on defense contractors as a sponsor to an exploration show?"

"When your that far out it's not a bad idea to bring bear deterrent"

I agree with the statement, and any protection is better than none, I was just speaking my piece. But I digress. I'll have to check out the show. Sounds interesting. Glad to hear they have some form of funding from a large company to help out.

Magpul is not a defense contractor.

Easy, Magpul makes a bunch of apparel that great for adventure travelers and will be offering more in the future. They are no more a defense contractor than Toyota, Warn, Maxtrax and others that also sell direct to our defense forces ;)

I love the show. The first Mackenzie and the Return to the Mackenzie were my favorites that got me hooked. They have a new South American video premiering October 27th that I'm looking forward to.

When you put it that way, I can see where you are coming from.

By the way Kurt, I have an LN65 diesel Hilux that will be modified in the next 18 months. I hear you can score parts for 70-series diesel Land Cruisers. Can you get certain parts for that model Hilux?
