    Hi All,

    I have a 1995.5/6 Tacoma, 2.7L 4WD Auto with the A340F transmission with manual 4WD.

My first car was a Jeep CJ, had a manual transmission, also with manual hubs (all around). The CJ had a locker in the back, which I always used in 4LO. With this I could shift through all the primary gears, giving me 5 ranges in LO, which was quiet handy.

My question is how does the 4LO work in my auto Tacoma? I haven't used it much, mostly because it seems to be mono-gear, rpms max out 2-3mph, which is fine to the "stuck" situations, but for pulling people from ditches etc, I found that 4HI is better, because even though I get more slippage, I can get more momentum overall, vs the 4LO crawl.

    Thanks!

    Josh

Josh, are you saying that when your 4wd lever is in the 4lo position and your shifter lever is in the "D" (drive) position, the truck will not shift out of first gear and is limited to 2-3 mph? Do you have a tachometer? How high are the RPMs in these conditions?

yup, she whines like crazy and must stay in 1st, @ 3-4mph she sounds like she's about to put a rod into space.

no tach, which is really frustrating
