well clearly if jennifer @ wolverine toyota can sell them in any state. i've seen TX and FL cars with TFS VSA's. i am unaware if there's any "licensed to sell in xyz state" rules in place. if the dealer has access to sell TFS products, they do. not all do, even non GST/SET dealers sometimes sell shitty 3rd party warranties (autonation seems to sell their own shit a lot, for one)

what i am saying is whoever you spoke to at TFS should not have told you what they said. no one in that department has access to the information you were told and if they asked a supervisor their supervisor would have told them to tell you to reach out to a dealer regarding information on pricing and availability of a VSA for your vehicle.

    Title XXXVII
    INSURANCE Chapter 634
    WARRANTY ASSOCIATIONS View Entire Chapter
    634.031 License required.—
    (1) A person may not transact, administer, or market, attempt to transact, administer, or market, or in any manner hold itself out as transacting, administering, or marketing the service agreement business, on behalf of herself or himself or itself, in this state or from this state unless it is authorized to do so under a subsisting license issued to it by the office. The company shall pay to the office an annual nonrefundable license fee for the license.
    (2) No person shall, from offices or by personnel or facilities in this state, solicit applications or otherwise transact service agreement sales in another state or country unless it holds a subsisting license issued to it by the office authorizing it to transact the same kind or kinds of service agreement business in this state.
    (3) No person shall transact, administer, or market service agreements unless it holds a subsisting license issued by the office authorizing it to transact the same kind or kinds of service agreement business in this state.
    (4) The office may, pursuant to s. 120.569, in its discretion and without advance notice or hearing issue an immediate final order to cease and desist to any person or entity which violates this section. The Legislature finds that a violation of this section constitutes an imminent and immediate threat to the public health, safety, and welfare of the residents of this state.

The only way I know people have gotten around this entire mess is to buy the VSA with an out of state residence address like a relative's address. A couple of months later they put in a change of address to their Florida residence. Not sure how they get around the fact that the vehicle is registered in Florida or if it even matters, but that's the only way I know of to do it.

i dunno about all that shit man... before my adjuster licenses expired this year i was licensed to do claims in every state even though i had a base region and depending on claim load they would add states that needed help from time to time. so who knows, maybe it's the same deal?

but i did just confirm GST/SET dealers can sell TFS products, they just can't finance them.

so there ya go... you're good if you wanna pay cash for one.

The way I looked at it, was that I would not own this car for longer than the 3 yr warranty. Even if I did with used car prices the way they STILL are (specifically the tacoma), why wouldn't you trade in..... that's me personally. Before the outrageous used car prices I would not think this way and wanted to extended car warranty everything. Now, I don't bother... if you still want to, I personally use the Geico mechanical breakdown insurance but that was from my Jeep days and now it's kind of a waste, I just need to change my policy.

Which is a major drawback when the F&I guy is sitting with you trying to tell you that this fantastic extended warranty will only add X number of dollars a month to your payment. It would also make sense why they don't even bother to add TFS to their state license to sell them. Very few people would plunk down the lump of cash to buy it, so doesn't make it worth the licensing expense to add TFS to their offerings.

    Interesting information, I appreciate it.

no reason to get a VSC contract if you got he vehicle brand new. 1st the VSC will tell you to use the manufacturer warranty first. 2nd a VSC will a set period ( year andd miles) usually 5 years and 50K miles coverage. this means that bot the factory warranty and the VSC will be over by the same time.

best is to get a extended warranty with a VSC right before you are getting out of the factory warranty. when i got my 2019 it had 20k miles and the gave me a VSC with 100k miles and 7 years coverage. is basically the same deal as the one i work at. and has the same basic rules. *for mayor repairs they would need Service records. i opted for doing oil changes at the dealer since they are cheap enough, they keep a copy of the records and they actually do the muilti-point to get the problems earlier.

if you are getting a "new car" TFS VSA the expiration date is based on DOFU and the mileage is based on what your odometer says.

so, like i have one on my wife's rubicon... 10yr100k. i bought it this year in may because 3 years was coming up and it wouldn't qualify after 3 years.

DOFU was 6/14/2019... so it is good through 6/14/2029 and even though her car has 15k on it, the vsa is good through 100k, not 115k.

it was still a better deal than the mopar VSA (which cost more and was more restrictive).

Waiting to buy the VSC until just before your warranty ends doesn't increase the length of your coverage, as both your factory warranty and the VSC start counting time and mileage from the vehicle in-service date. If not no one would ever buy one with the vehicle.

@old.shopteacher , did you have any luck purchasing your warranty yet?

There are plenty of folks here willing to beat you up for "wasting" your money but you do you.

If someone pays the typical, hideous $4400 asking price (or whatever level they chose), I can see that being pretty crazy but for $1900 for TFS Platinum VSA for 10yr/125k miles, I thought it pretty cheap insurance and negotiated the "Jennifer" deal with both the F&I clowns at the 2 dealers I bought my Tacoma from and then my new 22 RAV4 XLE AWD.

My wife and I both hit 60 y/o and I bought these 2 new rigs due to known longevity and we'll own them outright when my wife retires in a couple years and we move out of state. I just parted with my previous truck a week ago, a '98 Ranger 4wd SCab that I bought new with a warranty and drove it for 24 years. We intend for these 2 Toyotas to likely be the last new cars we buy, God forbid something happens to them. I'm not the least bit worried about having overspent on the warranties since I went into the deal with knowledge of what I could get them for outside the dealer thanks to the TacoWorld. Toyota gave us the money super cheap so we did finance a portion of each

the one sold by my company adds either 60k or 100K to the mileage you get it at. so fi you buy it at 60k and get the VSC with 100k your mileage expiration is 160K.

the one i got for my Tacoma ( was through the dealer cannot remember the name) added 100k on top of the 20k the truck had. making my Expiration 120k. and 7 years from the date of purchase.

you should not buy a VSC warranty that offers power train coverage when you buy new, you have the factory power train for that, but if you are buying used most of the time the factory warranty would have ran out or about to or in my case the second owner wont get the factory warranty at all.

yeah, TFS has "used" VSAs as well that go by date of sale and mileage at date of sale, those are basically only available when buying used from a toyota dealer and you have to purchase it with the vehicle. can't call back in a week later and add it on.

coverage wise everything else is the same though, but of course pricing is different.

i've seen plenty of TOB's replaced under warranty. i've also seen discs covered as long as the TOB was confirmed to be the culprit.

sounds like your dealer wasn't on your side.

i've also seen plenty of engine and transmission claims on cars with like 99,998 miles on a 100k warranty approved no problem.

They don't fight Toyota claims at all. You come in for a $35 oil change... they find a timing cover leak and get 12 hours of labor out of it and a tube of fipg.

I would imagine most people without a warranty getting a call from their service advisor "hey I know you only brought it in for an oil change but we found a tiny leak and it's gonna be $2000 to fix it, can we proceed?" are gonna laugh and say no.
