Ok I am about to drop the hammer on a 2016 Sorts TRD with the Premium Package, with accessories comes to just shy of $49K Cdn.

I intend to keep this truck for 10 years or until they plant me which ever comes first. With that said I am looking at the EXP`s offered. The Platinum versions pretty much cover everything that can go wring except the regular maintenance items, I should add I drive about 10,000 Km or about 6,000 miles per year. What do you guys think about paying $2,900 for the ECP for 7 years of protection under the Platinum Plan.

I believe the plan cover two years of winter tire flips which saves about $500 Cdn (2 per year).

With all of that do you buy it or leave it.

    Take Care

Im super frugal (cheap) so I always opt out of those extra packages. I like to take care and fix things myself where I can. When I have no idea how, I research the shit out of it and still attempt it.

Note, I have yet to have a bad thing happen to me that one of those packages would cover....maybe when I finally do and wished I bought the care packages, I will be singing a different tune.

No, it's a Taco. Most consumer advocates will tell you it's a waste of money for those packages from cars to appliances to electronics. That's where the dealer makes a sizable amount of profit. Throw it in your 401K instead. If you were buying a second-hand BMW 7 Series I might have a different opinion.

Yes we pay a premium to live up here in the frozen North. I would assume the repair rates are higher up here and there is less competition etc.
By buying the package I assume you saw value in doing so.

My dealer has a deal, where as long as you have maintenance performed there, it's a lifetime extension on the 5yr/60,000 power train.
I bought the Platinum in 2007; not this time.

You can say that again and be right twice! Still after awhile you get used to it. It is what it is and repair costs are not cheap up here.

As a bonus our Eastern Voters just elected a F%%%g Liberal Gov`t, God help us Trudeau will make Obama look like a far right Republican.

    Take care

ECP makes more sense in the US because you can shop around and find some dealers in the country selling ECP at about 50% off SRP. ECP pricing in Canada is a big ripoff. You can call around a few dealers in the country and see if they are willing to discount it.

Note: ECP is priced like an insurance product. On average, even with big discounts, you will lose money with ECP (i.e. cost of repairs would be less than cost of ECP). Toyota has an army of bookies continuously analyzing repair stats to make sure of it. It really just comes down to your forecasted ability to pay for an unplanned $2000-$3000 repair out of pocket after the powertrain warranty expires.

Are the "winter tire flips" mounting and unmounting winter tires on the same set of wheels, or simply swapping wheels on/off the truck? The latter should not be expensive. Keep in mind wheels (and TPMS sensors) can easily get damaged during tire install. Doing it twice a year would lead to additional expenses.

I just got off the phone with a former client who owned a Torota store. He tells me the biggest factors causing the increase in Canadian pricing ar in no particular order:

    1. Our winters with the salted roads
    2. By far the largest Quebec. Apparently Quebec drivers have 3 times the claims than the rest of the country and Toyota has no way of dealing with the public relations aspect of telling the Quebecors to FO. So we all pay. He advised not to get it and I have decided to forget the extended warranty. For the US it makes sense at their pricing. For us...not so much.

Thanks all for the candid replies. I am looking forward to my new ride. I am closing out on it Nov 2. Blue Tacoma TRD Sport DCLB AT with the premium package. I`ll put a cap on her from Leer and a few minor accessories and call it good. *Dealer is going to have to throw in winter tires and rims). $48,500 Cdn. + or - a dime or two.

    Take Care

thats nice but at the same time, you'll most like not get a chance to use it until it hits like 300k miles. perhaps a water pump here and there.

such low mileage a year wow.
I dunno if its really worth it.
From what I've read on this forum the taco is rather reliable, aside from frame rusting (which warranty wont solve) and after finding out many dealers do not fix warranty with new parts. In the warranty if you read closely it just says they have to fix it and make it run again, never once say they have to use new parts. After finding out many dealers use used parts under warranty repairs it left a bad taste in my mouth

For the price doesn't seem worth it either
Rather steep. Its nice for peace of mind, but given it doesn't cover scheduled maintenance not worth it. Thats the problem I ran into with the last car I bought. They tried to sell me on it, the extneded was the same price as the up coming scheduled maintenance (it was certified pre owned) wasn't worth it.

It kind of depends on the person. If you are comfortable with dealer work, and you worry about big problems, its kind of worth it. I personally hate dealer work so I do not care for it one bit. Too many bad experiences, rather pay out of pocket and have it done right the first time than need to miss work for it from the dealer taking their sweet time.

I am slightly considering it though just for the powertrain, but then again its not a new engine to toyota, been using it for the sienna, so pretty much tested engine.
Not sure about the new transmission though. But still the 1500+ you pay is a bit steep.
From what I've read on here though most people seem to be against it.
