No. The problem is all the 2nd gen guys who buy springs that are made to hold a 200lb bumper and winch, and then dont add any weight to the truck.

Come on guys- if you get springs with a heavier spring rate- designed to support more weight, and you leave the stock bumper and skids on- don't complain about a stiff ride.

I wonder what springs the people who are complaining about the ride are running?

I'm one of those "2nd gen guys", and have been reading this thread with raised eyebrows mostly. There's a lot of hate here for guys who love the same trucks...
Personally I bought a used 3" revtek style spacer lift ($225), i run my stock springs and shocks, with a diff drop kit. My truck is a turd sport so i have the stock "billies".
I am a hunter, so I use my truck off road here on Vancouver Island, in mud, snow, gravel etc and so far have had no problems with anything. It rides the same as it did before the lift.
Having owned many leaf sprung Toyotas in the past, this thing feels like a Caddy in the bush compared to a lifted 4runner or 'cruiser etc.
Having no fancy uca/lt/db whatever bs lift has not diminished the riot i have whenever i take my truck in the bush. I went on a run with some other taco owners from the area, they mostly looked at me like i was crazy for the way i was thrashing my 06dclb sport. only "damage" was compressing the front skidplate into the frame a little. oh no.

Hahahaha.... 2" more clearance hub-to-hub doesn't mean shit.... It's a nice to have but doesn't really matter... Put your wheel on the obstacles and roll over. A stock height Tacoma does just fine for damn near everything anyone on this forum does....

Like I said before on center of gravity worries me...

As long as you wheel carefully you'll be fine... Either way all I'm saying is that a 3" lift is not gods almighty lift that all you kiddies make it to be... A 3" lifted Tacoma is barely anymore capable than a stock Tacoma... Same with a db life. Until you goes sas of LT we're all the same (except center of gravity)

Ok what about small ruts out on the trail? Thing sucked... Travel is almost alway the problem with a 3" lift. Now nice mid-travel setup... But you'll still have cv and axle seal issues unless you run them at 2" then what really is the point of lifting the truck?

big difference...ruts are made of sand and mud, speedbumps are made of cement/asphalt.

I think its a 2nd gen vs 1st gen thing.

I have never heard of someone in a 1st gen who though their OME/Bilstein lift didn't ride good.

If you go with a db lift and some sort of 3" lift with some racing coilovers you could have the best of both worlds.

Maybe it's 2nd gen thing but it didn't matter any and every bump on road and off road it felt like I had no springs or shocks... Put on the db lift and it was cush on and off road. I only worry about cog... But honestly I don't like to off road this rig because come on its not some beat up off road rig... I'd be pissed if I dented and fucked it up... I have a nasty scratch on one side from off road and to this day it pisses me off. If I'm gonna really wheel I'm not gonna chose a 2nd or 1st gen Tacoma... I'd be in an 86 4 runner... I've done some stupid shit in this truck which now I look back and wonder wtf

There is a guy in my hometown that's got an FJ Cruiser sitting on 37" KM2's, he writes occasionally for a 4WD magazine and uses it pretty hard core. I'm pretty sure he's running a pro-comp 6" and no BL (read the article a long time ago). Havent had a chance to talk to him, but at the time of the article he had experienced no problems...

smells like ultimate test time. 1 stock taco with 3 inch coilovers vs a stock taco with 6inch db lift. same size engine and tires complete an offroad course. do it! do it! Price vs. Performance comparison!

Obviously havent been rock crawling because you dont have sliders.

Can you fit skidplates with a DB lift? Last time i checked they had to be custom $$$. A 3'' truck with skidplates will take a hell of a lot more abuse than a truck with a bracket hanging down thats bolted to the frame. A DB lift is not strong as stock. Period. There is nothing wrong with doing high speed stuff with a good set of coilovers. The front out performs the rear anyways, thats why you always hear guys suggesting to LT the rear first.... Tons of guys jump the tacos with coilovers up front. I would be scared to see a DB do some of the same stuff....

    Wonderful post.

Im game. But it wouldnt be much of a competition :stirthepot:

why would one run the same size tires with a 6in lift that they could run with the 3in lift.

With 6in you could run larger tires

To test the abilities of the lifts, not anything else on the truck.

That is why so many have a gripe with DB lifts, in order for it to be practical you must run larger tires to make up the the loss in clearance due to the bracket.

And anything over 33" on an IFS setup is overkill.

Alright then you havent been on the big rocks, because if you had, you would have rocker panel damage.

    Agreed

Eh I agree to some extent. Some people have had really good success with 35s on IFS. Now bigger than 35s on IFS is defenintly over kill.
