I've seen something somewhere about a wire you actually unplug below the dash to give yourself a factory alarm. The write up was done on an automatic and the plug was right where a clutch should be... so I can't find it.

It sounds as if you do not have keyless entry on your vehicle at this time. The Free Alarm Mod that was mentioned is only available if you ALREADY have keyless entry as an option on your vehicle.....but all hope is not lost.

I have tracked down a very affordable "plug-and-play" keyless entry system. It sells for $39.99 and included everything you need to have a keyless entry system installed in your truck, assuming you already have automatic locks. They sell parts to install auto locks as well, but the price is significantly higher, and much more labor intensive to add that to your truck. The link below will take you to the site so you can check it out, the page will show the KE-40, but when you choose the "Vehicle Compatibility" option and enter in your Make, Model, and Year it will take you to the KE-30. (Based on entering 2002 as the year for the OP, other years could be different, could be the same.)

    Free Alarm Mod
I'm not sure if the Free Alarm Mod will work if your truck is any year other than a 2003, but I was lucky mine is and it worked flawlessly. I was amazed that spending only 5 minutes up under my dash was able to provide my truck with a completely free alarm.
I'm also not sure if this writeup will still apply if you install an after-market keyless entry, since the wires you will need to modify will possibly not be present in the wire harness.

For what it's worth, I have also included the link to the Free Alarm Mod as found on CustomTacos. Below is a picture of the clip that needs to be unplugged to make this mod take effect, but the process is broken down step by step in the writeup.

All in all, your best bet may be to track down the actual part that is installed in a factory keyless equipped vehicle and snag it from an auto salvage, or keep an eye open in the Buy/Sell Forum for someone parting out their 1st Gen truck. That way you are still saving money, but could possibly still be able to mod it into a Free Alarm.

Good luck brother, and happy hunting!!

I can't get this site to show me the ke-30. I've got a 2002 and on your advice, am trying to get the ke-30. Anybody else having any luck getting it to show up as the ke-30?

Any idea if the ke-40 will work as well?
