Factory Bilsteins for a 4x4 regular cab

    I see lots of factory Bilsteins for sale on ebay at good prices. What is this going to do for my truck? I assume the springs that come on some of these will be too stiff. I have a 4x4 regular cab. I like the ride as it stands now and I do not want to lift the truck. However my past experience on stock Toyota shocks, such as the black ones I have now, is that they do not last very long. I should add that I will probably never go off road. I use the truck for hauling my mountain bike in the summer and my skis in the winter.

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    The Bilstien 5100 series shocks are really good. They are valved for the Tacoma. The front are adjustable, but as you are not seeking lift, you can leave them on the lowest (stock) setting. :)

    the yellow stock bilsteins for the trd,s would be an improvement...and cheaper then the 5100's. if ur not planning on any offroading or anything, i'd go the yellow route

    I want to harden the driver's front to level out the "taco lean"

    What is the taco lean?

    I know some people talk about leveling the truck. I assume that means raising the front since the front sits a little lower when stock. Personally I love the look of the back being a little higher. I gives the truck a bit a hot rod look.

    u can only adjust the 5100's...which dont come stock on any vehicle.

    i "leveled" mine out w/ 2.5" and got the tsb in the back and the front was slightly higher....so i had to nip that and add another 2" to the rear and i like the higher back stance as well...and helps a lil w/ high centering on trails

    After reading a bunch of posts it seems a lot of people are not too impressed with the factory Bilsteins. Maybe the 5100’s are the way to go. Anybody run them at the stock height? Also, how much stiffer is the ride going to be with the 5100 setup?

    My 5100's don't seem stiff at all. I think they feel rather plush. I have my fronts set at +1.75 inch.

    AFE oil free drop in, Secondary removed, tint, front D-rings, Toyota bed mat, Undercover tonneau, TRD seat covers and floor mats, Pioneer speakers, Westin Platinum bars, Fumoto oil valve, short antena, Nifty Xtreme's, TSB leaf springs, Bilstein 5100's set at .85" in the front
    I'm only running my 5100's at the .85" setting, or next step up from stock height, in the front. I have had the TSB rear leafs which set the rear up only .75" over stock so the rear is still about 1.5" taller than the front at this setting. The ride is not much more firm than what the TRD factory yellow Bilsteins were but have better dampening. I might add that any of the aftermarket Bilstein's will be about twice the diameter of the stock issue shocks.
    The link below is the cheapest I found. I offered $10 less on make a offer and Sonny took it. I like the way the truck rides.

    I ran the stock yellow ones on my '99 for 6 years until one of the rear started leaking. If you use your truck as desribed they may be alright for you for less $$.

    The regular cab 4x4 is not covered under the suspension TBS. Probably because it's the only truck light enough for the rear springs to work properly.
