Hello all, I am new here as of last week! I searched through the forum but still have not found a definitive answer. Is it possible to hook up an aftermarket headunit say a pioneer AVH-8400 double din to the factory microphone and bluetooth settings. I just purchased a 2012 Double Cab, its not a JBL system just the basic one, but I really do not want to lose the factory microphone and have to install a new one after the fact. I have not taken the dash apart yet as I am still waiting on Metra or Scoche to come out with the dash kit etc.. So if someone who has experience could please let me know if it is possible that would be great.

    Thanks
    Jon

Usually most manufacturers use a proprietary mic that only works with their HU. I found that out when I tried to upgrade the mic for my kenwood. It's not like a standard mic that plugs into a computer.

But with that said, you're going to have to do some research. You may get lucky. Some mics are the same. In my case I found that I could use a parrot mic for my kenwood because they actually manufacture the kenwood mics. You might find that Toyota uses JVC for example. You'll need to locate your plug for the mic and try to match it up with an aftermarket mic and then go from there. Or see if there's an adapter to use the stock mic from Tacoma.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was just hoping that the linked forum would have helped to see if anyone has tried that. They tapped into the mic harness and then soldered on a regular microphone jack for aftermarket head units. Conceptually it seems like it should work, I am just new to the Tacomas and was not sure if there was anything I might be missing.

I have the 2012 double cab without the JBL also. I just put a Kenwood DNN990HD in my Tacoma last week so I have looked into this. The factory mic is a 6 Volt powered mic. Your rear camera is a 6 Volt camera also. I did not use the factory mic as the Kenwood has a 2 wire (non powered) microphone input. I do not know what microphone your new head unit has. I connected up the Aux & USB in the lower dash to the Kenwood too. I signed up for the Toyota TIS subscription for a weekend. It will give you all the info you need to do this and more. That was the best idea I found looking into this. I downloaded and saved all the info for my truck, not just the stereo info. I got an extra day as I signed up for the weekend. It is only 10 or 15 bucks and damn well worth it! Be ready to spend several hours on the TIS site. You can PM me if you have any other questions.

Any way to not keep this a secret and just say which of the 4 wires of the powered mic you used to or how you did it? I'm not asking for schematic diagram of your vehicle that you got from TIS. I don't even have the car you have but I do have a toyota with powered mic and trying to figure out which wires are which.

    thanks
