I just purchased a 2002 Tacoma Base 4x4 4cyl and I love everything about it except for the fact that it doesn't have a tachometer.

I want to convert to the TRD style white face gauges or similar.

So here are my questions. Assume the mileage is the same on all clusters. I understand all legality issues.

-What instrument cluster types are compatible? Are only 4cyl 4x4 models from 01-04? what about v6? 4runners? Any info on years & models that work is helpful.

-What year did the white face amber lit clusters begin? Are they only on V6 TRD or are there 4cyl ones?

-What is the 3RZ redline at?

-Are all models prewired? I don't mind if the wiring is complicated.

-Lastly, what clusters have electronic odometers and what ones are mechanical still? Are the electronic ones programmable? I found that the mileage is indeed stored on the cluster eeprom, so I just need to know if a dealer or similar can reprogram it to match my truck.

    Pics and info greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Im pretty sure 4cyl & 6cyl are different. The wiring plugs in. Thats about all I know. Maybe try a wrecking yard? Try this place for used parts info, LKQ/Keystone: 800-525-3667 Im in So Cal, but I believe they are all over U.S. Wish I could help you more

They should be pre-wired for tach. Just find a cluster from 01-04 and install it. Did this to a civic dx with no tach and installed a cluster from a ex with tach and it worked fine. All cars manufacture pre-wrie

the 3rz redline on the tachometer is at 5,500 rpm, i think it cuts spark/fuel or whatever at 6k.

The newer, modern white faces start at the new interior style (2001).

I have a 99 and the odo is digital so i'm supposing 98 is the first year for that or maybe even all taco's have digital.

If it were me, I would ad a tach and not mess with the dash. It can be done tastefully and it would be much easier. You could probably get one anywhere. Summit or the like. Easy install too.

    Hmmm,
I have been wanting to do the same, but there arent many going to the junkyards here.

Another big dilemma of the rust recall.
