This piece broke on my truck today. I'll try to get it covered under warranty.

I broke this exact same piece and got it covered under warranty in Boulder CO. It was super easy and only took them a week to order it in.

I ordered the part online. It was $25 with shipping. I didn't have time to take it in for warranty. Leaving on a trip in a few days.

Smart man... keeping YOUR truck away from those dealers IS the best protection you can do for it..!!

Anybody else wonder what kind of weight the tonneau cover could endure if maybe a tent was put on top of it? Just one person.

My cover has not had any failures yet, but the cover does appear to be warping. Each section is bowed and if you eyeball it or look down it in the side mirrors you can see it cupping. That does not work for my OCD. :)

There's data on this, I believe in the manual. You cannot put a tent on top of it. I know there's a warning on it that says don't stand on it. I imagine you would murder the seal as well. @Mobtown Offroad has some bed bars that work with the cover on, and will support a tent (500lbs at rest, 250lbs in motion). They are definitely on my long list of shit to blow money on and really aren't that expensive.

In other news, I have almost 10k miles on mine, and my cover is still mint. Since my truck was special ordered by somebody who backed out and went Tundra, the cover was already on when it hit the dealer, and I'm glad. First cover I've owned, and I wouldn't have another truck without one. I fold it up/down often so I certainly use it, but don't abuse it. I also clean the rubber seal whenever I remember just to keep it from dirt buildup since this whole city is a construction zone. I'd be pretty upset if that piece broke, but going off my experience with my dealer thus far (and with my previous 2013 that I also purchased from them and traded in on this one) I'm confident they would fix the matter in no time. As is evident, some dealers can be great, some can be cockface little bitches. Hopefully yours isn't a cockface little bitch.

Tried it. Broke in less than a week. That part seems to take a good impact when closing the second section of cover. It looks like a really bad, weak design, so I'm glad they put it in with screws!

The same part broke on my Tacoma this week. I have only folded the cover back about 4 or 5 times since I bought the truck (new). I park in a garage so I do not think the integrity of the plastic was weekend by heat/sun. I will bring it to the dealership to see if they will replace it. I will post a follow up after after I visit the dealership.
