    Hey folks!

This might be a little long so please "bear" with me...

I have been a member here since 2006, I just created this account for security reasons. I know that it's not best practices to post when you are going out of town so I created this account for that reason. I'm really just asking for suggestions on what to do while on vacation in Fairbanks.

I will be in Fairbanks from August 24th through Sept 3rd. I have a friend that does PTSD therapy for the DOD up there so I will have a place to stay and plan on getting a rental to get around in. I will not be bringing any family along. My questions for you folks are...

What should I expect the weather to be like?
I like to hunt and fish but I think hunting is out of the question because I am not a resident.
I would like to do some fishing, I think someone recommended Valdez and that seems to be pretty far. I think I would be willing to make the drive depending on what to expect in-between.

Any activities that you guys would recommend I check out while I'm there? It will be my first time to go to Alaska and I'm pretty excited about it. I like to get out and hike and sight see if that helps you folks with any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

You could hunt the Forty Mile Herd caribou hunt during that time frame as a non-resident. Not sure what the prices are like for that. Lots of grayling and pike fishing opportunities all around the area.

i'm in fairbanks right now. If you like hunting the permits are pretty pricey from what i hear for non-residents are like 100+. depending on the area you'd like to hunt at. Theres plenty of hiking. Angel Rocks could be good.. Thats on Chena Hot Springs road probably about 30 miles or so in. If you are into Local Breweries theres that too. We have the Silver Gulch in Fox, and also HooDoos Brewing complany. There is also Lavelles Taphouse too. We have shooting ranges over by The Tanana River and also Up the Elliott Highway (Unofficial) but they are pretty good spots. If you've like to meetup that can be arranged too. But why the whole secrecy of hiding who you are? no one really cares who you are on here. but if you do have any more questions feel free to PM me.

    Thanks for the info!

I've done IT work for police departments and have seen where someone posts on social media when/where they will be out of town. Their house gets broken into while they were out by someone that did a little research online to find out who they are and where they live.

I'm not really trying to hide anything, just playing it safe.
