I also do this for rental cars. I reserved 2 convertibles when I went to L.A. because I assumed they would screw me. When I got the car, I canceled the other reservation.

Damn, I'm genuinely impressed with this style of buying. I might try it out.

Alright, I'm officially never going to buy a Lenovo. If I'm given a shipping date, I expect them to hold to it. My original ship date was the 12th. My new ship date is the 26th. I canceled my order.

I hate arguing with random CSRs on the phone because I know it isn't their fault. But Lenovo reps had a way about them. They managed to start pushing all my buttons and before I knew it, I had called the lady this morning a "liar" and then said "Cancel my f***ing order"

she said that it is their policy to not let anyone wait on hold for 2 minutes and that the system would not allow me to wait any longer. Because of that she had to issue a callback. I've been issued several callbacks from lenovo and I have yet to receive a callback. I called her a liar because there is no way that their system would kick a customer out for being on hold for 2 minutes.

Why didn't you just buy one from Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc? Then you'd have it already. I think BB sells Dells now. Not sure. Haven't actually been in one in over a year.

    Hey Isocoee,
I was just waiting to put in my 2 cents, but you are probably better off. I work on computers for a living (approx. 20 years now) and the company I support is buying IBM ThinkPad T61 laptops. Just yesterday I replaced a Hitachi hard drive in one that was 3 weeks old. True, still under warranty, but they had to reload everything.

    Just an FYI......

yeah, I have 2. Mine and my wife's. Tea spilled on her's twice when the stupid cats ran passed and knocked the cup over. First time I took it partially apart, dried it, and it worked. Second time no such luck so it sat on a shelf for a few months. Then my new coworker told me to break it down again and spray flux cleaner over everything and let that dry. Sure enough, it powered back up after I put it all back together! :rockband: So I salvaged a 3-4 yr old laptop that I got for free from my last company because it was "slow", out of warranty, and needed a new hard drive. Turns out it was slow as shit because they had a 65W power supply and it needed a 90W. So bought a new PS and it jumped from 600MHz to 2.5GHz. :D

Had the same thing happen to a couple other spill Dells that came into the office. Clean with some flux cleaner, back together, and they go back out the door fully functional.

Yeah, I did buy a dell. I canceled that order earlier today. I found out that the battery supplier's warehouse caught on fire. They just so happen to supply Dell and Lenovo. That is the source of the delay.

I could have kept the toshiba that I bought for CC, but I wasn't a very big fan of that one. I only bought it because the price was good. Anyway, I am going to return that one too. I ended up buying a Sony from Amazon that has really great reviews and Amazon has it in stock and offers next day shipping.

Ghost is a wonderful tool! :D

On the same note, I had 3 brand new Dell laptops come in needing new memory fresh out of the box in the year I was at my last company. No problems thus far with my new company, but shit happens I suppose. One of the reasons we stock Seagate hard drives with 5yr warranties, and sell Dell Small Business line computers with a 3yr warranty.

Yep! We use Symantec Ghost, but that only reloads the basic XP image with Office. All of the other, user specific programs have to reloaded with PC Wizard and that could take hours! :)

I thought the whole point of ghosting was to have other programs installed too.
