FB Marketplace

I have a 3rd gen lift kit for sale on FB Marketplace, its been on there a few weeks. In the last few days I have been getting a few messages from different people asking if its still available, after I respond with yes it is they ask what my address is, I tell them the city then say if you are interested we can make an appointment, I usually don't hear back.
Are they fishing for a truck to steal or am I being paranoid?

 

If they ask for an address, give them the address for your local police office. Tell them you can meet them there.
Some are scammers, but there are others out there who do that with the intent of robbing people.

 

You are not paranoid. People are just self absorbed, preoccupied, distracted and down right flakey and fickle. I’ve sold a lot of non truck things on marketplace. I dont give my personal address ever unless its a large item I wont move myself like a couch etc., only after they agree to purchase it. Still negotiate on site some times. Small items I may meet in a public place, store parking lot and even once a local police station lot.

use your gut feeling / intuition. If they sound like an a$$ then pass.

 

Always meet at the police dept. it quickly separates the criminals from others. If not in a populated area can be fine too

 

I just found it kinda strange. When I've sold other stuff on FB folks responding usually ask a few questions then ask when they can come buy/see it, these last three people just straight up asked for an address.

I agree best to meet in a public place(crowded). For your security. Best to bring a friend. They can be a distance away watching too?
Works two ways ,as a buyer,( Usually carrying cash) . You do not want to victim either.

I like the idea meeting at the police station parking .

 

The city police dept where I lived in CA had special parking places set up for online transactions. They had cameras on them all the time. It was a really good idea.

I also have sold items and always meet at the local PD which has an on-camera designated spot for such activity. As a backup I leave my dashcams on and window down for recording audio.

The couple of times I've had someone come to my house was for a large AND heavy item I could not load into my truck alone. Those times I made sure my wife was home watching from an upstairs window ready to call 911 worst case.

Though actually I had a pool ladder listed and a fellow contacted me who turned out to be a former coworker, so in that case I told him come right over or give me your address (3-4 minutes away) and I'll bring it by. Very rare happening of course..it also was brand new in box and he knew it was the one he wanted so it was clearly a done deal.

As a buyer I've asked the person to suggest a landmark nearby or for them to choose. I did go to someone's house once but the lady had given me her address as her vehicle was inoperable. I not only bought my Schwinn bike but jump started her car for her.

 

If your police station have a special spot for sellers and buyers, means it has become a huge crime problem.
America is falling apart. What made America great was the people and freedoms. Now we cannot trust the people. And losing our freedom to sell and buy safety. How sad!

BUT there are many “good people too “! I think Tacoma owners are good people too. Tacoma do not make fast get-a-way trucks. Lol.

 

I do live in a quiet town though that doesn't mean someone from a surrounding area might not come by..or that all people are honest. I guess if it keeps honest people honest ultimately it's a good option to have at least.
