Despite many insisting the Morimoto XB HID bulbs having 'bouncing' issues that we confirmed were not actually faulty bulbs, there may still be a sour taste for some.

Otherwise, if you've been holding off on those to see a solution, perhaps these will be up your alley:

    Morimoto 2Stroke LED headlight bulbs

    Output

Stemming from the popular XB LED bulbs sold previously, that just weren't good in low beam applications, the 2Stroke uses the best optics currently available to maximize the output of even halogen projectors like the 2016+ Tacomas use:

    2m5mlcl_ae1c232d2ed94d95c1b73b92406ea8ebaf67aadf.jpg

While the performance is not as good as HIDs, it's about 80% thereof, which still far exceeds the stock output. They also do not require a wire harness, do not produce any measured EMI, and offer incredible build quality unlike any generic renamed bulbs on the market.

    Build Quality

Starting with a proprietary "piston" design that I myself rendered up originally, the 2Stroke features a cast aluminum body that is then powdercoated a very attractive gloss graphite color. The piston design allows for optimal airflow through the copper heat pipes and then through the bearing-less active cooling fan. This fan is a "MagLev" (magnetic levitation) style, which means no bearings to fail, a very quiet operation, and virtually endless service life.

Replacing the rather crappy connection that the XB LED bulbs, the Morimoto 2Stroke features a metal threaded multi-pin connector that's probably one of the sturdiest I've seen in a while myself. The slim line driver is about the size of one of those tiny altoids tins--maybe slightly larger. It is fully potted inside with hard 2-part epoxy to ensure the electrics never see water or moisture regardless of the conditions.

At the face of the bulb, the locking adapter sockets are interchangeable, and allow the choice of H7, H11, D2S/D2H, 9005, 9006, and 9012 for most fitments.

    About those LEDs

Using potent CREE XHP50 "Extreme High Power" LEDs, the 2Stroke provides up to 5,000 raw lumens per bulb and at an output pattern mimicking the arc of the HID bulb or filament of the halogen bulb they replace, meaning no awful glare, and output as good as it can be all things considering.

    CREE XHP50 tech data: http://www.cree.com/LED-Components-and-Modules/Products/XLamp/Arrays-Directional/XLamp-XHP50

    Need to extend the housing?

We designed a proprietary rubber dome housing cap just for the base of the bulb to protrude outside the cap of small housings while remaining waterproof. It too has the unique "2S" cast into it:

    Pricing / Availability

The 2Strokes are currently in very large scale production and are anticipated in large quantities here in about 3 weeks.

    The price?

Well here's the best part: $105 per pair. Pricing goes up $5 over the previous XB LED bulbs they replace. It doesn't get any better.

    Thoughts / feedback?

Pricing only went up $5 compared to the model they replace. No current promotions for these unfortunately, as we'll already have a hard time keeping them in stock.

Whats the output of the new LED's (lumens) compared to the Morimotor 5500k 50w HID's?

It's actually mentioned there in the first post: "While the performance is not as good as HIDs, it's about 80% thereof, which still far exceeds the stock output. Ah so they are about 80% of the brightness of the hid's are are direct plug and play instead of running a wiring harness which is nice!!!

    Stuff. Also things.
I would definitely be interested. Trading a little bit of output for no EMI is huge for where I'm going with my build.

Ya a comparison would be awesome, OPT7 says their output is 3500 lumens per bulb!

and with that being said, what was the cause of the "bounciness"?

We have generic bulbs in stock we can compare to. They seem to be the same thing.

Doesn't necessarily mean anything, though. It's common for really cheap kits to just have all sorts of "buffers" in them to make them seem as nice.

Awwwww fuck, I've been fighting that bouncy stuff thinking it was the projector in the housing not secure enough. Also have been stuffing foam between bulb socket and housing on the back of it to try and get it to stop. Have been contemplating going back to halogen even. I'll wait and see how this plays out and maybe just do bulb swap.

That's what we've suspected it was since the beginning. The bulbs are far too tight in the projector to bounce in the socket.
