I've never filled in a chip on my windshield...I just leave them alone until it cracks....my 2011 OEM windshield was replaced earlier this year.

I've asked around and I have heard that filling in a chip will, over time, create internal pressure and make the chip bigger.
I heard this from a local shop and a Safelite shop.

This is the first time that I hear of this and can't really believe this is true. Over the past few years, I have seen those "crack filling" kiosks pop up in parkinglots everywhere. If this was true, they wouldn't still be in business, right?

Any one with experience in windshield repair?

I just got a chip in mine last week, saw it this weekend for the first time. I'm trying to figure out what I should do. Hope this gets some feedback.

I just bought a DIY windshield repair kit Rain-X brand. I haven't had a chance to use it but I think it should work fine based on the reviews. I have had chips fixed professionally and never had any issues but around here the price of a repair is up around $100.

I had mine done last week. Was a pretty big chip. The guy who did mine pretty much explained it to me as he was doing it. He used a bristle brush to take as much of the glass flakes/chips out. Then he uses some sort of vacuum that sucks out any gases produced and air that gets pushed in from driving. After about 5 minutes or so a resin/epoxy of some kind gets sucked in due to the vacuum that was created. Uses a UV light to cure the resin and then seals it. At least that's what I saw happen/him explain to me. But he also explained that there was always a chance of the cracks/legs spreading even though it was "fixed". Got it fixed for a $20 "tip".
