    Can you post a pic of what you are talking about. I have the 4.0 and I dont see what you are talking about looking at pictures of the 2.7.

    It is in the return system, but i don't know what it is/does.

    I do not think it is the purge cannister.

    I'm sure someone will be along to help now that there is a photo.

    @Jimmyh, what does the FSM show here?

    I'm not clear as to its exact purpose, but I was curious as I moved it out of the way doing a 4.0L spark plug change and when opening the drivers side engine block drain plug from above vs. pulling the tire off. Using google I found it to be:

    Vacuum Surge Tank

    Part # 25719-50040

    Used on many different makes of Toyota

    Google the part name/number and you'll get all kinds of hits.

    I was not able to find this part on the 2005-2006 FSM from customtacos.com or the waybacktimemachine - I believe that a lot of Emission control function was not included by the person(s) who put that together.

    On page EC-2 in the following URL - you will see the Vacuum Surge Tank - you can simply do a FIND for "vacuum surge tank" from the top of the document:
