Yup! The dealer in Asheville, NC doesn't even know how to look up TSB's! At last visit, Oct. 11, 2018 mileage in was 13,884 and mileage out was 13,884. Was told they drove it and could not find an issue. Had TSB 0077-16 installed in July and now have the same issues. Called the dealer in a neighboring city that did the July update and they said that not only would they address that issue, but that would apply TSB 0058-18 as we are in a higher elevation area, 2,500 ft.+/-.

Wow. my dealers SUCKS. i have a 2016 sr5 with 36,000 miles, tried to get this done the other day they said if we can replicate it we'll apply it but it will be $80. I showed them the printout of the tsb and how it said covered under 80,000 mile warranty. They said ok we'll do it for free. Then called me 3 hours later and said we couldn't get the truck to stumble so we didn't apply it come get your truck. i am pissed......

I took mine in to the dealer (Toyota of Renton) I bought it from, after emailing the lead service tech the TSB and bringing in a printed copy as well. Later that afternoon they did my 5k service, applied the ECU flash and the truck runs like night and day. Much better response and all that. Still not great gas mileage but it's a good step.

Have you noticed while driving in S mode that it will still shift up without you doing anything? I was driving through the mountains in put it in S mode to see if I could control the shifting a little better. I would be in s5, hit a slight incline, RPMs wouldnt even be close to redlining, and it would still shift up on me...Im not sure what is going on...

Sounds normal. S-Mode is just a gear limiter. If you're running in S5, then the tranny will utilize gears 1-5 just like it would if you were in D, but it will not go into 6th. S5 it typically not appropriate for mounting driving as 5th gear is likely going to be too tall for the high end gear for that type of environment. Better to be in S4 or even S3 when ascending/descending grades and trying to maintain a lower gear.

Interesting...I was under the impression that when in S5 (or in any S gear), the transmission would stay in 5th gear until manually shifted (or if RPMs are too low or too high it would automatically shift down or up to avoid stalling/redlining)

No. S mode limits the highest gear possible. Nothing else.

Who did you see at Toyota Town? I've been in there a couple of times over the last few years and they rarely seem to know about any of the TSB's or whats going on with their vehicles. Vicki is OK, but there was another knucklehead that was the worst. It would be great if there was a"Tacoma/Tundra" service manager that only dealt with specific vehicles.

Got my 2016 serviced last week and they applied several TSB's after I complained about having transmission shifting issues. The TSB's they applied were T-SB-0079-15, T-SB-0058-18 Rev1, and T-SB-0077-16 Rev1. Afte reading some threads here, I was under the impression that once these TSB's were applied, the techs were supposed to put a sticker under the hood, which they did not do. But I can definitely tell a difference in the transmission shifting, and a little bit more power. Some users I've read on here reported an increase in fuel mileage as well. I've had the update for almost a week, and I haven't noticed any change in fuel mileage, and it may actually be a bit worse than before, but I'll keep monitoring it.

Went to a local toyota here to get my TRD Pro this update and replaced my license plate light housing that has water in it. I feel a very big difference on how the truck behave smooth shifting. 15404767813612410894528218218162.jpg

Interesting that they told you they applied all 3 cause they can only apply the 0058 TSB. 0079 got replaced with 0077 which got replaced with 0058. From what I'm aware of they couldn't apply the old TSBs if they tried. No matter though cause 0058 is all you need, should be a world of difference since your truck should be a late '15/ early '16 build that suffered from shift flares and delayed drive engagement and surging

I tried to get my dealer to do it at my first 5000 mile oil change and they fed my gf a bunch of crap and refused to do it. I’m sure they got their a$$es chewed out though bc I left a nasty review on the dealer via the Toyota corporate survey....

If they got chewed out, I hope they follow-up with an appointment for you to come in and get the update.

I don't understand the hesitancy of dealers performing a TSB. Corporate should be all over their asses promoting the fix.

Their “way” of getting out of it was by telling my gf that my vin didn’t qualify or something which is a total lie.

How many members are in the Gen 3 Forum?

Would it be possible to organize an e mail campaign to Corporate expressing our frustration over this issue? If the members of a large group each sent an e mail to Corporate at the same time, would it garner any real response? Is there any way to ding there quality ratings, or threaten to?

I wasn't aware of TSB-0062 when I took mine in for its initial 5,000 mile appointment, I mentioned TSB-0058-18 and that my truck stumbled sometimes in 4th-5th gear..they flashed the ECU and installed TSB-0058-18...after almost a week of driving I can honestly say that the stumble is gone. It also made the throttle more responsive and changed the rpm shift points in the transmission. What a difference and right at the moment, between some city and mostly highway driving, I'm averaging 24.9 to 25.5 MPG. On top of that, with the higher RPM shift points, the truck is lugging no more. I am really happy with this TSB...she really pulls like a truck should now.

I guess they meant that 1 software update covered all 3 TSBs. Is there a way I can look up the Software version with my OBD-II scanner to confirm I'm up to date?

Mine was flashed for 58 and 62 at the same time, no pushback from dealer at all. Drivability is much better, no starting in 4th from a slight roll start and shifting is much better. Too hard to see any mpg difference as we had bad weather and job function changed with much more driving(stopngo), tentatively the same but just plain drivability is much better. Hopefully it doesn’t revert back as others have claimed.

You can look here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/list-of-t-sbs-etc.562671/ then you can pick the T-SB you want to look at. It will show you what the calibration ID will be if you use an OBD-II scanner to check.

SAME. Mine does this big time and this happens at SoCal elevation so idk if this TSB technically applies but I'd love to know what I can do about it
