DCSB OR dominated that segment by count. That sub model is probably heavily weighted to 4x4.

I drive mine probably 75% highway commuting. As high as 80mph regularly, and low as 40 mph. I’m just a touch over 18 mph average for 10k Miles. Pretty much what the sticker says. Oh, I’m disappointed in the sticker, but it does what it said it would do.

I will say that wind will knock the stuffing out of your MPG on this truck, much more than any other vehicle I have ever owned. Also, your FJ got about .6 mpg better than my FJ did. That thing got 15.75 religously.

Definitely, and more so in the FJ. That thing has the air profile of a brick. I commuted for a year about 55 miles one way. Filled up 3 times a week. When I moved, between gas and toll fees, I got a $600/month raise.

I don't really know, but, at least for now (about 100 miles) it has a bit more zip and I don't notice gear shifts. I think they moved the low gear shift points up a little. Not near as much as ECT mode, but it seems they hold just a little longer. MPG seems about the same with this small sample size.

I took a 180 mile round trip yesterday and I’m still very pleased with how mine shifts. The TSB served me well. Now, about that howling rear differential......

Ok. Yea that's about what I'm thinking also. I hit 20 mpg running around after my appt twice today but then got my normal 17.5ish on my normal trek home. My truck never shifted as bad as some of the guys have posted on here but I do feel it's better so far. I went to a big long winded hill here & it held gear now. Also I didn't have the 2nd to 1st clunk downshift at both stop signs that I always have issue at on the way home from work. Plus it's only 18° tonight so it should have done it tonight. Only time will tell...

It’s a ‘16 Off Road with 29,000 miles. I never had any of problems everyone here talks about until a couple of weeks ago. I was glad when the tech told me he could feel it as well, and it was definitely not right. The ‘17 Sport loaner they gave me has no vibe issues btw

When I had mine done the paper work also said 77-16. If you read with a OBDII meter you should see it received the latest anyway. I read some where on here that tech Stream gives the newest software it has even if the dealer is stating an older TSB.

    0062-18
    0058-18
    0125-18
    Edit: and for Canada T-TCI-5133

These all will give the same CAL ID # because they are the exact same fix just for different symptoms.

Give it a few hundred miles. It'll go back to its sluggish race to 6th gear ways.

So if the TSB updates wont work then what is one to do then? Sell their Tacoma and move away from Toyota? Is the 18s better then 16,17? Because after reading all the post Im thinking I should sell my 2017 Tacoma before I brake 20,000 miles. Is the 4 runners any better?

Suggest you drive one and decide for yourself. They are very different.

Back when I had my 06 4Runner I thought it was pretty damn good. But they haven't changed much. No tech, same poor mileage with the 4.0L power plant. They are sorely in need of a redesign. They are past the refresh stage.

But if those things aren't important to you, it is a solid SUV. Still built on a truck frame and with 4WD will go just about anywhere a Tacoma will.

@crazyfingers i own a 18 Tacoma OR. I've never drove an 16 or a 17. But, just by hearing about how it rides by owners. The 18 is just identical.

A few days in now with the 62-18 update. I had one of the early versions of the "fix" put on my '16 back early in 2017. This is definitely better than that. Truck has more power and gets off the line with the rest of cars around me. Before it was almost dangerous at times wiht antsy drivers behind you and you hit the lag at the most inopportune times. So far none of that. I do find myself switching back to using S mode a lot though out of habit, and I find when highway driving I find it gets better torque and gas mileage when using 5th for normal speeds 50 - 65, and 6th for 70+. When in regular Drive, it still hits those gears, but it's almost like a different version of them with less torque. Weird, but that's what I experience.

    Hey all,

Just an update as it seems pertinent to the question at hand. I now have just over 4000 miles on my 2018 OR 4x4 DCSB. Purchased in July, got the update in August at about 1100 miles. While the throttle response improved post update, the hunting for gears and what gear do I belong in confusion has not really improved. I might have been able to live with some of the gear hunting/confusion, but the one issue that just kills me every time, is a delay from pressing the pedal until the vehicle accelerates when I am in a coast at approximately 15-25mph. I can literally press the pedal, count 1, 2..and then the truck revs aggressively and kicks into gear as if it's now overcompensating for the delay as opposed to what should have just been a gradual increase in speed. This doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough that it has driven me crazy from day one and never improved post update. And once and just once, I pressed the pedal and it just didn't react at all, it was just dead, then I released it and pressed again and it accelerated. Dead pedal, are you kidding me??? Try telling a driver what to do when a vehicle is heading at them and you have zero control over getting yourself and your vehicle out of the way.

Due to this I opened a case with Toyota Corporate and have been in process for about a month or so. I have replicated the issue on a road test with the master technician from my dealer, just yesterday I replicated the issue on a second road test with a regional field service technician from Toyota Corporate. I was sure to express my frustration and let them know how dangerous this level of unpredictability is while driving an automobile.

Through all of this, they cannot find any issue in the logs or via any diagnostic test. They then persist to tell me the vehicle is operating as designed and that since they recommend no repairs or work be done on the vehicle they will be closing the case unless I want to take the last option which is arbitration. This is where I seek further resolve with a rep from Toyota Corporate and a third party rep from the National Center For Dispute Settlement. They asked me what I looked to achieve from an arbitration and as far as I understand, a proper fix for the issue is essentially out which leaves you with a possible buy back of your vehicle. I have no idea if this is at the total you have invested, a depreciated value since it is no longer a new vehicle, etc..

Telling drivers their complaints have no resolution because the vehicle is driving as designed, and then releasing an update that attempts to resolve the same complaints is the most ridiculous acknowledgement of a design flaw I've seen to date. It's unfortunate, I don't doubt the genius of Toyota engineers, but with this many drivers, all experiencing this same high level of frustration, it's quite obvious at this point that they really fell short of the mark with the third gen computer/transmission design. And even more unfortunate for the loyal Tacoma lovers paying the price to the tune of 40k+ and a super frustrating, poor, and sometimes dangerous experience.

Anyway, there's my small book update/two cents.
