Finally had TSB-0058-18 today at my 30,000 mile service. They didn’t even hesitate to apply the flash. My service department is awesome. This along with my Meso ECT always on mod should be sufficient until I can afford a tune one day.

Yes. 100% sure. Read it for yourself:

“None of our products can be used at any time on any emissions control vehicle that is used for anything other than off-road performance. ALL Ecu tunes, Calibrations, flashes, files, datalogs, or anything in regard to the tune, tuning process, changes, are for OFF-ROAD USE ONLY NEVER TO BE USED ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY”

    https://www.ovtuned.com/pages/tuning-performance-terms

Whether or not they actually meet emissions requirements is irrelevant to that disclaimer.

The two things certainly don't gel...@OVTune needs to modify one or the other (or both) of those statements with regard to emissions. As for the tuning liability statement, that is boilerplate for any sort of modification and it's why I like products to be out in the wild a bit before purchasing something. This tune has been out for awhile now and only gets better with each iteration.

As for the tune itself, after data logging with the tune and without, I have absolutely no doubt the tune will lead to better longevity for this engine/transmission than the OEM tune (including the TSB)...not to mention the ridiculous difference in drivability relative to OEM. But some people are risk takers and others aren't, though I think the risk with the OVtune is negligible at most...DSFDF...

Don’t disagree that the product looks to be legit, as many happy customers on this board testify to. It appears by all accounts to be a huge upgrade, worth the cost and relatively issue free.

But that disclaimer is ridiculous. It is setting up every single customer of the product to be in violation, and therefore without recourse should something go wrong. I’m a small business owner myself, and that is far from boilerplate.

    Hey all,

Just wanted to provide an update since the ECU update. 4000 km later, my truck has never run better. It shifts correctly, excelleration is there when I need it , etc. I also have run the higher octane gas since the update. Thanks again for this page.....I never would have known to get it.

I would say higher octane gas is half the reason it feels better as well. No doubt it shifts better, buy it still shifts too soon sometimes and has to downshift immediately. I would say it has cut it in half with the TSB.

After going to several dealships and getting rejected and also multiply calls to corporate with no luck. I finally got my truck flashed with this update. And I have to say I’m very satisfied with the results. No more dead pedal feel and the shifts are more precise and behaves like a normal truck now. I was this close to trading it in. I just hope it stays this way after the learning period. So far I’m very pleased!

"24.9 to 25.5 MPG", Come on, man! I drive my '17 like there's an egg under the gas pedal and once got 23 MPG as that ride was mostly downhill.

I'm quite honest about my mileage. Of course, most of my driving is flat ground. Not a whole bunch of hills down here.

My mileage was initially up and then way down. I do have to wonder how much of this is because of winter blend fuel. My truck is very finicky over fuel (prefers premium) and I noticed a couple of mpg loss after the winter fuel mixture arrived.

I think you’re on to something with the fuel mixture.

I’ve found my Tacoma to be extremely picky about fuel. Honestly, I can’t run regular without it feeling like it’s missing. I have to run premium like guys like @Lt. Dangle - his likes the good stuff too. My daughter’s Mazda CX-5 will spit and sputter all over the place with certain brands of fuel. I wouldn’t be too worried and would maybe wait until the crappy fuel we are getting gets better in the Spring.

Neither of my Tacomas seem to like regular. I do find that in the winter a Top Tier 87 won't give me fits but the generic convenience store gas will.

I’ve gotten where I run almost exclusively Costco gas but my Taco only likes the good stuff. Like Pavlov’s dog, I’ve had to learn over and over to avoid the painful stimuli. Every time I use regular I have bad results yet I somehow can’t resist trying it every now and then. Maybe it’s my inner cheap coming out.

Yes, it is. It’s all I use but I was referring to issues with the regular unleaded.
