I have not read all of this thread so I hope this is the right place to put this, not complaining just asking for help understanding my issue, 16 TRD Off Road A/T w/44,450 miles I've had no problems at all, great truck, very happy. Last Tuesday driving down the HWY and slowing down to a stop light when out of nowhere I felt a strong jolt in the trans, I actually thought somebody bumped me from behind, it was that abrupt, came to a stop at the light, all seemed ok, then sped up to 30 mph and bam it does it again and it kept doing the same thing all the way towards home after every light and getting worse so I headed for the dealer, last 5 miles was really worried I wouldn't make it there, by this time it was stumbling at any speed. My explanation to service tech was it felt like the trans was stumbling or stuttering. 2 days later they updated me and think it's a dirty gas issue. 5 days later it's still at dealer (this is a very big and reputable dealer) They call me daily with progress updates. They just called me now and said they are now in touch with TOYOTA and on Monday TOYOTA will get involved! Their best mechanics at this very big dealer can't figure out what's wrong with my truck. This is not a dirty gas issue. Is this what people here on this thread have been experiencing?

    UPDATE:
Just got a call from my service Tech: After 6 days dealer notified TOYOTA that they have not found a solution, at this point TOYOTA recommended replacing the "crank position sensor" (I didn't know it even existed) tech says it has not repeated problem since replacement but they will hold it another day to confirm problem is fixed, Tech says TOYOTA told him they have had this happen a few times nationwide. Vehicle is under emissions warranty and powertrain warranty so I should not be stuck with a bill. I am lucky this happened when it did and hopefully fixed. I will update if anything changes.

    I second the "that's amazing"...24 mpg?!?!
Not sure how slow I'd have to go to get close to that number, lol...maybe a constant speed of 50 mph in the flats would do it? I average 15-16 around town and on a recent trip to CO (from Texas) maybe about 17 mpg on average (didn't calculate). What gas (octane) are you using?

There’s no way anyone is getting 20mpg pulling a 16’ trailer and two atv’s. Complete lie.

I'd like to clarify that it's a tandem axle utility trailer and not an enclosed type...I stand by my statements. Right now I'm using 93 octane and, after 2 fill ups I'm seeing an actual decrease in mileage...22.8....As for lying...I'm just stating what the truck and my calculator tell me.

They gave me the T-SB 0062-18 after I had a long talk with the manager and left it overnight. It did what it’s supposed to do but I’m not happy with the tranny overall. If they don’t get it right I’m not going to give them the luxury of having more of my money. Will move away From a Toyota. They have to learn the listen somehow.

I’m taking mine in tomorrow for 15k oil change and TSB-0062-18 update. The receptionist allegedly noted what I want done, so we’ll see. I thought I read on a thread that there is a sticker they are suppose to place under the hood that reflects the update. Is this true?

They are supposed to but it’s hit or miss weather they do or not. The only way to know for sure is to check with an OBD II reader.

I've got 5k on mine and it's doing the same damn thing grrrrr, frustrating. I love my truck but between the stumble and the jolt I am really thinking about throwing in the towel on my Taco. I actually test drove a new ram rebel yesterday. Don't want to swap but I do not see a real fix for these issues in sight.

You’re not alone in thinking of moving away from Toyota. On the interstate yesterday, running smooth at 72 mph, I get to the slightest incline and it shifted to 5th, and a little while later back to 6th. In another instance on the same stretch when we reached another incline it shifted to 5th and then to 4th. Why in thee hell would you want to shift down at 72 and for a slight incline I don’t understand. Any other vehicle I’ve been in doesn’t do it. Totally pissed with this investment.

Did you get TSB? Mine held 5th and 6th gears pretty good after TSB. Did not want to accelerate though and that is why I moved on to OV. The whole different game now....
if you still on the fence , go and read OV about ECU shifting logic and the limits that toyota set to control engine power/load.

Yes, they put in the T-SB 0062-18, supposedly. The paperwork says 1811 I think. But they said they did it. I was working with the manager for it. It worked fine for a while but seems to have reverted back.

The dealership just called and said they applied the TSB so we will see how it goes later this afternoon

My 19 had a harsh up shift when it was cold. Literally felt like mild jolt mostly in the lower gears until it warmed up. Told the dealer and they said the usual it’s normal BS. I mentioned the TSB and they won’t apply it because it’s a 19. Also mentioned the tranny fluid as a possibility and they said low tranny fluid won’t do that. My BS meter was pegged at that point.

I bought a quart of WS fluid before I left and topped it off per the DIY someone posted and it took about 3/4 of a quart. Cold harsh up shift gone instantly, still has the hwy hill gear searching but OV should take care of that when I get it. I’d check your tranny fluid level.

I have an OBD plug and the Fusion app, can I check the with these tools? Dealer just did mine but wouldn't print out a copy of the ECU for me to double check.
