Ok. Thanks. Going after work today to the dealership. I called. And they don't know what in the world I'm talking about. So I printed out the TSB.

Anyone in Columbus, OH have this done and at what dealer? My dealer is normally pretty good, but they seem to be big on replicating issues first.

Dealer just called. They denied the update for me. They said the "button for upgrade is grayed out" in the software.
They are pretty sure that my previous transmission update over a year ago is what has disqualified me.

Are you sure your model meets the various codes on the TSB? My understanding is if the ECU update is of a newer version it would take the update.

Just started the process of trying to get my truck fixed after a year of being miserable on every long distance road trip (can't use cruise control if there are ANY hills) and horrible shifting/ lagging acceleration and then random spurts of power. Dealer said "your complaint is pretty common and there's nothing we can do about it". So I asked why Toyota published multiply TSBs about issues similar to mine and he said I would need to get in the car with his technician and replicate the symptoms. I'm already pissed off with this process and Toyota as a whole. I'm going to have to take time off work to go sit there and try to show them the symptoms when they are already dragging their feet from the start.

When I called my local dealership on Friday, the service advisor wasn’t aware of the TSBs either. I gave her the numbers, and she put me on hold. Came back a few minutes later, and said “yeah, bring it in on Monday”.
Tacomaworld is such a great resource! Although, it’s a little disappointing to have to educate Toyota dealerships.

It did make me look like one smart MF-er, though!

Anybody in the SF Bay area had any luck getting these updates? Just got a '17 TRD OFF Road and coming from an '11 I feel like a granny on the highway...

@nor*cal*jack I requested the update be done when I brought my '16 TRD OR in for it's 45k service at Piercey Toyota and they did it with no questions asked. I did notice they did T-SB-0077-16 instead though. I think I read somewhere it is the same flash code though.

I agree Tacoma World is a awesome resource. The first time I got denied the software update. I called Corporate to see why and they called local dealership . After they had a discussion with dealer I was told to bring it back in. They did update the Ecu and now it’s drives like a different truck .Happy Customer now

its a software update. like any other kind of computer update, ask them if there is a antivirus, do they wait thill they get a virus before the get the update,, its so simple, your truck is run by computer, it needs updates when they come out, regardless if the dealer cant replicate,,

That's the Rev1 update from 2 years ago, it is not the same flash by any means although it does fix some shifting flares and delays in engaging D from R

I got this done today with 500 miles on the truck. Had that jerky down shift and pause to upshift. The clunk into D or R. Also someone else mentioned it felt like the e brake was on. Whatever they did, is super smooth now. Wasn't that bad before, but had been the reason with autos that I've driven manual forever to get away from. Now

My Amazon/eBay Xhorse MVCI cable that I have used in the past to modify the accessories in TechStream would NOT allow me to flash the ECU. I ordered a Tactrix OpenPort, using the same laptop and TechStream, and successfully performed the TSB update using the files found here. Took 5-7 minutes tops. Two local dealers would not perform the update, citing "could not duplicate the problem".

This is the the way to do it if you keep getting the run-around from the dealer. The Tactrix adaptor is a bit pricey, but the end result is well worth it.

Just got mine updated @ Karl Malone here in UT. Stated mine was the 2nd one they had done today. Definitely feel the difference. This should be a automatic update by Toyota at your next service.

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'm on my way back to Piercey Toyota to find out why they gave me a two year old update that doesn't address my issue...

Just had my 2017 updated yesterday, don't have a lot of miles in yet. It does feel better holding gears on the highway. In city driving a have a local street that I like to test on. It is a gradual 3% grade and before from a stop it would fall on it's face when it hit fourth and downshift back to third, it still does that so I guess I will just accept it.
