I am going in for my first service on Saturday and am hoping to get something done on this transmission, mostly the highway gear hunt. I have printed out 58-18, 62-18 and 77-16. I've been reading through here trying to figure out which is the newest or the most important one to install if they will only do one. Any suggestions?

77 is rubbish dump it. 62 and 58 are the same final answer, just pick the one that is easiest to duplicate unless someone has a MT and in that case 58 is the only one that applies

Ok I had mine done this morning, and had great customer service from beginning to end. they even drove me home and picked me up. I went in with a stack of report that I printed out and brain full of information to take them down, none of that was needed though. I told them they should educate themselves for anyone else that comes though with the same objectives. I was the first one who they have preformed this TSB for. Thumbs up for Merced Toyota Ca!!!!!! As for the tune itself they truck runs a little smoother, at a full stop I don't get the erratic talk off and from 30-40 I don't have a slump in power anymore. those were my two biggest concerns. So im back to being a happy Tacoma owner....

    good luck guys.....

They are the same. They are the same fix for two different problems. They both end with the same result.

What’s the difference between the 2? I got the 58-18 loaded. It changed shifts a little but i didn’t feel much of a difference

Haha. Geez. I’m blind. I quoted the post from a page in the beginning. I was still working through all the pages.

I got the 58 update. Shifting seems to be better for 4-5 but for some reason after 3rd gear the Rpm drops about 500rpms then Jumps back up. Super annoying. Maybe i drive like grandma but it was barely any marginal gains for me.

At my appointment and the Service Advisor at Toyota Escondido didn’t give a hoot about the TSB and didn’t include it in the notes, asked where I got it and promptly tossed it on the passenger seat. I offered the same symptoms as stated in the TSB, which is actually true. He didn’t mention anything about a diagnostic fee, but did say he’d need the truck til noon and I told him applying the TSB should be an hour or less. He still went on and on with the company line of the tech needs to replicate it, blah, blah, blah.

The service advisor also had no clue what I was talking about when I asked to have the blinker rate changed from 3 to 7.

    We’ll see what actually happens.

If possible find yourself another dealer. The first one I went to pulled that crap on me. The second one I went to had me in and out in 40 min with a whole new truck lol. Don’t take no for an answer.

That’s the plan. A gal checked on me and I told her the TSB was on the seat which had all the info the tech needed. She said she’d let tech know herself and bypass the service advisor. It’s in the bay now...

I'm more impressed with this latest update now that I have a few days of driving with it. About twice a week I drive up into my local hills to ride bikes and the drive is a twisty 30-50 mph road with total elevation about 1400 feet. I had given up driving this route in D because the truck would constantly shift, buck, surge and my foot would get tired jabbing at the gas pedal, so I'd use S3 to avoid that. Drove the route yesterday after the update in D and was pretty surprised how much better it works, was holding gears and my right foot was steady on the throttle, good stuff hope it lasts!

    Stock truck with a shell . 3.5L auto .
Full review of the new ECU update .with the T-SB-0058-18 I had it done out of town 600 miles away from home . I drove it in that town in city driving for about 30 miles in stop and go traffic stop light to stop light , and about 30 miles in S mode in the same city . Then jumped on the freeway and drove 600 miles with 3 stops for gas and food. First 500 miles was all 72 to 78 mph. on Illinois flat hwy I 57. It pretty much stayed at 2100 to 2200 rpm CC was much better than stock but driving without CC made for less shifting , just as before . I had a 10mph headwind , and got 19.5 to 20 mpg all driving was in D . I got the .5 better without CC .
the last 100 miles was doing 62 to 65 mph on a mix of flat to minor rolling hills , some small town driving and stoplights etc. Again in D , got about 20 mpg. ( was using CC as the wife was driving)
In the past , before the new TSB , if I drove over 65 mph , my mpg really dropped to about 17.5 or less . the truck needed to be in 4th and could not use 5th very often and 6th only when going down hill .
My impression is that is shifts MUCH smoother . From taking off from a stop casually , not in a hurry just normal driving , it goes through 1st to fourth as a vehicle should , smoothly and seems to use 2nd to 4th gears equally . I have at times felt a slight jump in power at 2000 rpm , not as pronounced as the 3500 rpm jump , but , to me makes it feel quicker in the lower rpms than before. When passing , I do not need to floor it , as it has plenty of guts to get around anything in a hurry without double downshifts and screaming . The wife was driving and passing and commented on how fast it is .
Once home I went for a drive and did a common for me 8 mile route to my local town . Rolling hills with almost no flat driving and 2 stop signs , 45 to 60 mph . I had the 2 previous flashes from Toyota to 0B0300 . With 0B0300 I started using Smode all the time for the 13000 miles ? I had it , as I did not want it to learn , and D sucked anyway ! Pre 0058-18 , the best mpg I ever got on this route , weather using S mode or D , was about 21 mpg. With the new 0B0400 (T-SB-0058-18 done ) I just got 23.9 mpg. on this same route . We had NO stumbles and no clunks or surges !
My friend is coming for a visit this weekend with his truck that we put on the OVTune .He is really excited in the results I had with the new TSB. He still has the 0B0300 and has run both the 87 and the 91 tune , currently running the 87 tune . We plan to test the truck again ( we have done it before) on my same route as is , then we will use techstream to put on 04B04 and drive it on the route and more. Then If he wants to , put on the OVTune 1.04R and try the route.
PS I had Toyota put on the 0B040 on my truck for the paper trail for the warranty . This is also why I did not use the OVtune on my truck , as I am waiting for my warranty to be up.
I will report the results we get next week .

Thanks guys. I believe that Escondido did eventually do the TSB after two folks reportedly told the tech that the TSB was on the front passenger seat. A note on the paperwork only referenced "CAUSE: OLD ECU" ... "REPAIR: REFLASH ECU". The tech didn't leave a sticker under the hood as requested in the TSB, but I always keep the paperwork. All told, 2.5 hours in and out and they did put 6 miles on the truck.

Driving it 24 miles to work, part freeway, part back 2 lane roads, the shifting was smoother and there was less of a pause when I hit the gas to get around a semi. From a stop, I no longer have the surge/pause/high rpm rev to get to where the peddle is telling it ( floored peddle or otherwise ). The DCC is also holding gears longer.

On the downside, the tech and service advisor said it wasn't possible to change the turn blinker from 3 > 7, so I'll have to have my ducks in a row on that for my 5k service. I'll likely have that done at Mossy or Temecula to have them verify the TSB was done correctly ( for peace of mind ) and get my turn blinker changed as requested.

    :hattip:

Oh man! Everyone update is very nice! I just got mines down last night and how the way y'all explain it. My truck doesn't feel that way at all. It still shifts fast. It doesn't hold gear long. Let me just say. It still feels like when I first drove it off the lot.

Just bought my 2016 last Saturday... It's a pre-certified, but I doubt they did any of these updates. How do you know which TSB your rig is currently running anyways?
