Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

Follow up with what they find, although I can guess already what they will say.

 

What's that?

 

Normal.
Unless the engine throws a code they won't do anything. It's worth taking it in though. Who knows for sure. I'm going to have them address it when I take it in on my next service.

 

They'll have to show me documentation that the engine is supposed to do that in order to get away with that.

 

Questions -

1) Does the throttle issue present itself at sea level; i.e. Florida?

2) If so, any luck in Florida getting this done?

3) Names of "cooperating" dealers in Florida near Jacksonville would be appreciated!

 

Many brave souls have ventured into the dealership with other obvious issues and been denied. If the computer doesn't detect a problem they will pass it off. Just be prepared.

 

Cant you just say you experience that when at high altitude? I live in Texas and we go to the mountains in CO all the time. Just a thought.

 

Finally broke down ( initially had second thoughts on having this tsb done when I love how it drives ) and I’m glad I did. Drives like my Fj and wife’s 2008 4Runner. It’s preppy now and there’s no sudden surge when on WOT. It’s just hard linear pull/acceleration. Thanks Tacoma world.
Had it done at Toyota . Told my adviser engine stumbles from stop when WOT at big bear . Told him they can’t replicate it here but if they will ride with me to big bear I’ll show them . They did the TSB . ☺️

 

I definitely don't drive like a grandpa. Of course mine never had any problems - I just had the dealer apply it for the hell of it since I was already there for service.

 

Same here. Mine likes the expensive stuff, kind of like my wife.

 

My second gen went through 3 AC fans, all because of pine straw according to Toyota.

I called for my update and have an appointment for Monday. I explained I had a delay gap on acceleration [felt like 2to3 seconds] once when merging into heavy traffic on RT95 that caused me a safety concern. There were two other times on moderate acceleration when entering a crowed road.. No testing required and No hassles. I'll post back my findings. [2018 TRD Sport] To add FYI- I just returned from a California trip where I rented a 2017 Nissan Frontier automatic trans. I drove it from San Francisco to LA on the PCH and I thought it had a better shifting transmission. I never felt the throttle delay and comparable power, but 2 mpg less. The cabin was outdated and had a cheaper feel.

 

I had mine done today at Performance Toyota in St. Catharines Ontario. Just told them the symptoms and asked them to give me the Ecu calibration id old and new.
They said they could not duplicate the condition but I gave them the TSB number and they said they found an update to the Ecu for this condition and applied it. Seems to be better. Also I found out how to turn off adaptive cruise. That helped a bunch.
Has the correct Ecu calibration I'd as per TSB.

 

That’s interesting...mine has been doing the same thing. I thought at first it may be the tires or road I was on but it does it every where. I may try higher octane and see it it helps. Thanks

 

Anybody try to get this done in Escondido or Poway? My guess is that Carlsbad will deny

 

Give it some miles after running the old tank down as much as you can. I usually can feel the difference pretty quickly, like within 100 miles.

 

Temecula did mine.

Okay so I went in yesterday to have either the 58 or 62 update done. I explained to the service advisor that I have this lull when pressing the accelerator and then wham! the truck lunges (used “surge”). I said I wasn’t sure if there was a TSB that might apply but for them to please take a look. I did leave copies of the 58 and 62 TSBs on the passenger front seat in plain sight.

I was then told that due to my low mileage (800 miles) it is Toyota policy for the dealership to call Toyota corporate in California to help with the diagnosis. They could not just work on the truck. Me: scratching my head at this point.

Fast forward 6 hours after my drop off I received a message that they could not reproduce my issue and that while there is an update they would not be doing it unless I came back and test drove with the tech and THEN drive a 2018 on the lot to compare how that truck drove.

I called back and left a message saying that I wouldn’t have the time to do what they asked and also I was disappointed that there is an update that might help but they would not apply the update. I then said I would be back at 4:30pm to pick up the truck. My voice mail message was left was about 2:30pm in the afternoon.

At 4:20pm I receive a call and was told that the service manager said for the dealership to apply the update and that it had been done.

I picked up the truck and the paperwork made no mention which update was done. I had to ask. I was told 58-18. It wasn’t until today that I checked the hood and here is no sticker. (The two TSBs I had printed out and left on the seat were gone when I picked up my truck.)

The truck does seem to drive better but I have no idea if an update was actually done. It does seem to pull a bit better but I’ll need to put more miles before I can really tell – especially all the shifting that seems to happen.

Oh well. I still like the truck and missed it the day it was in shop being checked.
