Rochester Toyota updated mine without any questions. I need to hook up an odb reader to confirm, I had the prior update applied and I can’t say the difference is as dramatic as other’s experiences.

No. There are ways around it. Apparently there are free Techstream software downloads. Just know though, you are playing with fire. I'm doing a little research with the help of another member.

Forgot to mention here-- right before this happened, it was like the engine was misfiring. Or missing. Or something. Sort of a chug, catch, chug, catch, repeatedly for about 15 seconds. And then the RPM through the roof thing happened.

I've read something about that chug thing being a changeover from Atkinson to... non-Atkinson? Beats me. Just something I read on the forum. Likely speculation.

Not mine. Just took off like a bat out of hell straight from the dealer! had a light peddel, more power and just shifted through all the gears. I liked it!! There's a lot more performance in these trucks than what were getting! But like i said after a couple days it mellowed out!

You can do it yourself. Once you have Techstream installed and the proper OBDII cable purchased, the update takes like 7 minutes. Beats the hassle of going to the dealership and getting denied.

Interesting thread--but somewhat confusing. I took my 18 TRD OR in for its 5k mile service and they did both the 58-18 which was labeled as "reprogrammed the transmission control module" and the 62-18 which was labeled as "reprogrammed the engine control module". Based on my local dealers notes on the work order it appears that 58 and 62 are NOT the same. What am I missing here?? BTW, the throttle response was improved--I could tell this while leaving the dealership.

    Cheers,

You really need a new dealer, I got mine done in less than 40 minutes, and many have theirs done with their oil change.

Does your dealership paperwork have any reference to either TSB when you picked up the truck? Or was it just that language you quoted above?

    Thx.

That’s the exact thing that happens when you use the cruise control in the rain. You hit one little slick spot, or a quick hydroplane just on one back tire, and you usually end up in the median or against the guard rail.

TSB’s are Toyota Service Bulletins, 0058-18 and 0062-18 are separate bulletins that address two different issues, but in this case, the solution applied to resolve each issue from each bulletin is the same. In my case the dealer only sited 0058-18 but also ran updates for both the transmission and engine.

Yep--the dealer invoice document has under "Cause: Software Update" followed by "EG1810" and then referenced "TSB 0058-18 reprogram transmission module control"

Next page again had "Cause: Software Update" followed by "EG1811" and then referenced "TSB 0062-18 reprogram engine control module"

Their docs make it sound as though there are separate modules controlling the trans and engine--it was my understanding they were one and the same!

    Cheers,

    D-ring tie-downs.
I have an appointment this coming thursday morning. The dealer didn't hesitate to have me come in. We'll see what they have to say. The listed Repair Service is: Transmission Diagnosis, transmission and throttle hesitating. When making the appointment i mentioned the TSBs and the symptoms I have.

Thanks db. My paperwork just said "reprogrammed" with no reference to 58 or EG1810. I was just told verbally the 58 flash was done.

Interesting that your service advisor mentions TCM, but neither TSBs call for anything but to update the ECM. Do you know what your current TCM Id is?

I see nothing on the invoice noting the current TCM ID--where do I look?

Had my 2018 done today at Toyota Certified of Santee, 400 Miles on the clock. Tech took it out and could not reproduce the condition, but reflashed it anyway and yes it is fixed! Drives the way an automatic should now. Did the 0062-18 according to the paperwork
