It boils down to fleet average. It's really the Tundra causing the problem since it gets such terrible mileage. Chevy/GMC has cylinder deactivation on their full size trucks while Ford has turbos and magic.

Makes sense. Funny you mention magic. I was just sitting here thinking to myself after perusing the F-150 website... "does ford have some kind of magic up their sleeve with these trucks that Toyota engineers just haven't figured out yet"?

How in the world are my MPGs going up in both Highway and City driving after this update yesterday?!

I thought the whole point of the original Tacoma shifting was to be more efficient. However on the contrary, it appears that shifting at higher RPMs is actually more efficient.

It freaking excellent to hear your fuel efficiency has increased!

Maybe the difference is that now the transmission isn't forcing the engine to run above 2 grand all the time.

When I force mine to stay under 2k it regularly gets 17s, and has been over 18. For me, commuting 44 miles and a third of the drive is city.

With the new TSB 18 are you suppose to get a sticker under the hood?

I took my 2018 TRD Off Road to the dealers for this and was told they installed it but I don’t have the sticker and there is no change in drivability.

So I have a lift, 285 tires, bed rack, skid plates and rock sliders and it all makes it heavier so I've been getting 14.9 miles per gallon. Although I'm actually getting better mileage than that if you consider the change in tire size and the fact that I never recalibrated my speedometer. Anyway my current MPG displayed is up from 14.9 to 15.2 driving around town this morning. It's not much but it told me that they're doing something right with this tsb.

Yeah, that's great considering all that. I was hoping there would be an increase because I plan on lifting soon.

I found that the biggest factor on MPGs were the tires so if you consider going 275 instead of 285 on tires your MPG will not suffer as much.

I run 265/70s and don't feel the need to go any larger.

I think Ford is willing to take risks at the expensive of long term quality. The V8s have always been solid, but I question the lifespan of their turbo motors. I've also seen a lot of videos with guys demonstrating how quickly they lose MPGs and power when it counts. Sure, they can get 30 MPG when cruising around at 50-55 MPH, but so can I with my Tacoma. That being said, I can't wait for the Ranger release; I will definitely be test driving one. Not that I'm unhappy with my truck, I just want to see what Ford has come up with. At the very least, it should give Toyota the incentive it needs to be a little more innovative.

No problems here getting Torque Pro to jive with Carista on Android. However, while a fabulous tool, TP only displays the first three numbers of the Cal. ID#, so useless in that regard. Ended up going with another free app recommended earlier in the thread.
