The downhill stuff... can be "normal" (honestly). Automatic engine breaking. That's my understanding. I'll add, it's not consistent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it kicks in when you would expect, other times not.

I'll also add... Good diagnosis on the other stuff. I think you're right.

Yeah you can check it. Calibration numbers are posted somewhere in here (or in one of the other numerous threads).

I have the Torque app but a lot of guys said they couldn't find the calibration id # with it. I have not tried yet. I also downloaded the Car Scanner app as most of the same guys said that worked for them.

Got mine done today. I haven’t been able to drive it yet, but wife who picked it up (I’m out of town on business) said felt like it had more power. And she always thinks I over analyze things so that’s a good sign.

I’d agree. Also, my tech had no idea about this and only checked to make sure I had the latest code, but not the latest code with the TSB applied. They have to search different systems. Mine did not. We debated. I won. I got the fix. I also got to hear him say I was right. I quite enjoyed that, especially after waiting 4 hours. Lol

But the tech that checked mine this morning told me it did come with the 58' version which makes sense to not have the 62' high altitude version. And it did not fix anything.

I can tell you that early July 2018 builds did not come from the factory with the update.

When did you get the truck?

My July 18 build did not come from the factory with the update. They installed 58-18 after I experienced the "surge".

I got my 17 TRDOR done yesterday and I like it much better. As you press the gas, the truck accelerates at the same pace, like a vehicle should. It’s not like ect or sport mode, just a smooth acceleration curve. Less gear hunting in cruise control. I doubt my gas mileage will improve because now i am driving quicker around town due to actual smooth acceleration. It does wake the truck up but not that high rpm jerky feeling like ect.

The service dude tried to no avail to refuse me but I was prepared after reading the 80+ pages of this post! Said at high altitudes it shudders when I hit the gas. I also said it hunts for gears in town and is worthless in cruise control because it searches for gears. He told me that they “DO NOT DO TSBs AT THE DEALERSHIP” I said yes you do....they are Toyota’s bulletins! Dumb ass. I then showed him the TSB from this site on my iPad....he said he had to talk to his manager, I said yes you do. He came back and wrote it up with my 20,000 service. I asked so you will be doing the TSB 0062-18 and he said they must first replicate it... I said so you are going to the mountains (60 miles) to try it out?..... he tried to act cool but he wasnt happy wit me. I said this is a known issue, Toyota put out a TSB for it, my VIN is covered, and they get paid for the 20 minutes of flashing....very long story short, 7 hours later, I am a happy man. It should have been a 40 minute service...so I took the day off from work and chilled.

I do recomend the update. Tell them it is hazardous at high altitudes and there is no way they are going to go to the mountains and try. I have had 4 Toyota trucks back to 1987 and I love my 4th gen, but hate the shifting. It’s only been 60 miles or so but the fact that as you push the gas, the truck responds in the same power curve is an improvement for sure. Best of luck my friends!
