No no no. You don't want to restrict OD on the highways, you want to restrict the learned shifting. Even if you go S5 you still are in an OD gear turning less RPM than the third gen manual tranny truck in 6th. The third gen in S5 is about the same ratio as a second gen in 5th.

Just picked up my truck from the dealer. Initial thoughts are positive. I need to get premium back in my truck and do some miles before I get too excited.
Flip side is they forgot to do my oil change, that's a blessing in disguise as I will do it myself now and save some money. They also accidentally cut my spare Lexus key for free so that was nice of them lol.

I had the 62 update applied, but not that that matters.

What do you recommend then for highway driving with hills? S5?

Yeah. Try S6 too though. S6 will still shift less than D. This is all without using Cruise. With cruise S5 is pretty good, pre tsb anyways.

I have put 1,500+ miles on since I got the TSB. I definitely feel like it regressed a bit. I think this started a few weeks after getting the TSB to be honest. It still will hold a gear going up a hill which is great. However, 3-4 gear change happens as soon as it hits 3rd. 1-3 are great, but 4th gear shift happens way way too early now. Then it jumps right back to 3rd when it realizes 4th just doesn’t have it.

Highway still seems to be about the same as pre/post TSB. However, My truck doesn’t like to shift back up after cresting a hill now. I have to let off the throttle once over the hill to get it to shift. That’s kind of annoying. Before I could have it in CC and it would downshift to get up the hill and shift back to 6th one over it. Odd.

It seems to me on the sudden surge of power at 3000rpm to 3500rpm does not seem to be a transmission problem. It is not downshifting it is the engine surging. So I am not sure how a transmission TSB will fix the engine surge unless it is a combined update of engine mapping and transmission shift points.

I haven't seen anyone claiming such. VVTi kicks in at 3500 RPM. That's the surge of power you are describing.

Heading in to pick up my 2018 TRD OR, didn't really have a problem with how it drove, but if this is better, why not? Scheduled service online at greens Toyota in Lexington KY and they straight up asked me "so you want the ecu reflash?" I said yup and that was all there was to it. I'll double check with obd2 scanner, but they said it didn't have update, now it does.

And THIS is how it should be. There should be no issues with getting the ECU update. I’m glad to hear they took care of you.

Scanner shows 6100, was 6000 before, so looks like I got it. Traffic sucked on the way home though, so didn't notice a difference yet.

So I've been playing around with the S-modes. In town, driving in S4 actually feels like driving a "normal" vehicle. It seems to hang on to 3 a bit longer before going to 4. And I can tell a big difference after cresting a hill and heading back down. It actually upshifts as it should. S5 is similar, but as expected it just goes to 5 a little more often (even on slight inclines).

The disappointing thing is that I'm getting that clunking shifting from 2 to 1. The hardest one I've experienced so far in this truck. It's not every time, but it was far more often than I experienced in normal drive mode.

It's a popular item to try. I have never done it myself, but others have. Mixed results of course, but it's worth a shot.

Yes, I have heard this noise, try down shifting like it was a manual and you will eventually hear it. It wont let you downshift to a lower gear unless it makes certain it will not red line.
