I signed up here back in December as I weighed Frontier vs Tacoma. You guys have been tremendous in help but have spent a lot of my money in the future I believe ! Long story, I tried to order a Taco from my local dealership and they assured me no problem. I wanted all kinds of factory options, JBL, beadlock wheels, TRD exhaust to name a few. Sure they said, so I waited and waited .... then 2 weeks ago they called and blamed Toyota and said can't order Tacomas. So I took this TRD Sport , entune plus and tow package. I was most bummed about the JBL because I wasn't thrilled with idea of ripping open dash on brand new truck but I will be all over the audio forums here learning best way to go. I also bought platinum 7 year 100k for $1500 , I know could have gone less but they started at 2300 and I mentioned this forum and went down, so thanks !

Congrats. It's a nice truck. Even though it is not exactly what you wanted I am sure it will grow on you and you have the ability to make it what you want it to be. Most of the radio, wheel etc. upgrades are fairly easy to do:); it just takes money and time:(

Don't worry too much about the JBL. I've heard it's not that great anyway.

    Same here.
I'm using the stock head unit with an amp, one 12" sub in a box, and upgraded door speakers and tweeters and it sounds really good.
I just have the sub box on the floor propped against the access cab seating area so I can move it if necessary. I haven't had to move it yet, I never have more than one person in my truck.

The stock speakers were just ridiculously crappy. I imagine even with the JBL they use shitty speakers.

I got everything, installed for like $600.

    I have a pic somewhere.

it's not a big deal to open teh dash to replace the stereo. just don't splice. use proper connectors and you'll have a nice sound system without a hack job.

A new headunit will help factory speakers dramatically, too. The Kenwood I have is now ~$200 and with it, the factory speakers are good enough for me to make replacing them low priority. I added an 8" sub as well and set the crossover to take some of the low end off the door speakers so I expect that helps.
