It has enough hard plastic in it so it should take off like a house on fire. :)

Beat me to it. I will add tho the plastic head extinguishers can usually be had for cheaper than servicing a good extinguisher. Problem is tho, plastic heads can be junk in the long run.

I used to be a fire extinguisher technician, definitely recommend Amerex! Old ones are great for target practice too!

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
How do you mount in bed? Will a small one fit in passenger backseat cubby on a DCSB?

    I don't know.
In all my years of driving, I've never come across a situation where I needed a fire extinguisher while on the road.
On my days without a cellphone until a few years ago, I'd have given anything I had if somebody would've stopped to help me when I was in need with my broken down Ranger.
But I'd rather err on the side of chance, and is skipping this one and save the space gained and money for something else.
I did give it some thought though, but I kept mine next to my kitchen stove.
It's far more helpful there. I'm not going to copy everything others do, and add crap to my truck, that isn't pragmatic or useful to me.

I had a brush pile fire get away from me last spring. I have two silver Kidde's, one in each truck and they were freaking awesome in turning the tide. It held the fire off long enough I could get a disk on the tractor and start doing laps which contained it.

I did have one that was maybe 10 years old that lost the pressure/propellant. I had replaced it before my brush pile escapade but you always wonder maybe if it is the gauge. Once I had the fire back under control I tried it and it was in fact dead.

I need to check on the recall on the replacements but the two I had were freaking awesome, not bad for a $10 a pop "better than nothing" investment. My initial concern was getting stuck somewhere and the hot exhaust setting dry grass/cornstalks on fire.

I watched one of my grandparents cars burn to the ground one time, so my experience differs. If you're on the road all the time, I think you're right, the chances are slim. If you wheel and get in to grass or underbrush, I'd highly suggest one. I also want to be able to help if I ever come across a nasty accident or something where a fire has started.

Also, I'd suggest a dedicated one rather than re-purposing a kitchen extinguisher. I have one in my garage where I weld, one in my kitchen, and one in my truck. One unit for all those locations wouldn't cut it.

This looks really interesting. They claim this extinguisher will discharge four times longer than a 5lb extinguisher, is clean, is noncorrosive, it never needs to be serviced, and is good for type ABC and K type fires. And it's small. Sounds almost too good to be true.

Its one of those things you don't need until you need it, and thing you really need it.

I discharged one (or a very similar brand) out of curiosity because I didn't know how old it was. Personally, I might keep one in my camping gear to maybe extinguish a propane stove cooking fire. That's about it to be honest.

kind of what I figured. Think I'm going to test it out during the next backyard fire pit and see how it does.

good idea. The extinguisher I discharged might have been ten years old and nearly useless. Or brand new and nearly useless. :)

In 1996 I was in Colorado a couple hours south of Colorado Springs headed north on the interstate. Noticed flames coming out of the pickup truck about 75 yards in front. Easy to see in the dark. The truck pulled over and I pulled in behind and grabbed the fire extinguisher I kept in the truck of my car. It was really dumb. I could have been badly hurt. I did put the truck out. The effectiveness of the very small extinguisher was amazing. The engine bay was fully involved. I sprayed it until it emptied and thought there was no chance of it working - and then just a couple seconds later it went out completely. If I had it to do over again I don't think I'd have done it.
