    This is my 4th baby Toy and first 4x4 and first Tacoma
    '77 372K miles
    '84 290K miles
    '95 140K miles
    2011 1.5K miles
    Still have the '95 so I don't have to haul firewood in the new one.
    All 4 cyl manuals.

    But as a new 4x4 owner I ask that you please refrain from engaging your 4x4 on dry pavement and wonder why its hard to turn or why it binds.

    People do it more often than you think...

    Too late already did both. The manual says to drive it in four wheel drive about 10 miles a month and I hadn't been off road or in snow in a while so I turned it on. I figured it was the nature of the beast. But thanks

    Don't use 4x4 on dry pavement , even wet pavement is marginal

    You're correct about the manual saying that. But find a gravel road or parking lot to put those miles in. Dry pavement = destruction of components
