Glad everyone's ok. How are you attaching the dashcam to the GoPro windshield mount?

 

Bolt on parts and paint by the looks of it, I'd say 6-8k and 3 days of work for the shop I go to.

 

OP - sorry about the truck.

What dash cam do you use? Any tips for this?

Things could have been worse if you left your driveway 3 seconds earlier and were already stopped at the stop sign. Seems like you paused before leaving your house. Someone is looking out for ya!

Good question! I chiseled out the center "prong" on the standard GoPro mount that clips into the factory car location. Then drilled out the diameter of the tightening screw on the camera supplied mount. The parts fit together perfectly after a little sanding.

 

I’ve got the same camera mounted the same way.

 

Thanks for this, that looks really good. I just did a quick Amazon search to find the "standard GoPro mount" that matches what you have in your picture and couldn't find it. Do you mind providing a link for that?

Yea man, it's this guy circled in red. If you take out the center prong out, you can shoehorn the supplied mount (also circled) in there.

You might be able to find the regular mount on eBay for cheaper! Then do the following mod. Ez pz.

OP, glad that you are safe and that no one is hurt. People are nuts and they drive like crazy but as long as no one is hurt it is all recoverable.

One thought. You might have more time than you think. Do you have a second car? As you know, your insurance will will limit the amount that they will pay for a rental car but if you have a second car then you get at least slow the clock down in your favor. Second, do you have a good repair shop? You can use the one the insurance company recommends (when my BMW got hammered the shop they chose was the best in the area so I went with them). If you have a shop maybe talk to them quickly about your plans and that you might upgrade the bumper, etc. They may be willing to work with you to get the bumper you want ordered and put it on. I had a friend who had something like this happen to him and the insurance adjuster was actually pretty good (which surprised me). He worked it out so he paid the delta on the cost of the bumper and it was less work all around. Not sure they all do that but work looking into.

 

I had an accident almost exactly like that 6500, find a good Bodyshop. My first one really messed up the core support welds and I had to take it to a different body shop to get it fixed correctly. Thank god my insurance company was actually good with keeping me happy.
