I posted this in Audio&Video but didn't receive any comments. Hoping someone with a first gen has done this.

A friend of mine generously gave me a pair of practically new Alpine 6x9 speakers that I'd like to install in the front doors of my '03 Tacoma PreRunner. I have searched all night and can't find a definitive answer on what brackets to order. Most all say they fit Toyota but then it states '05 thru '14, etc.
Looked at Taco Tunes site, but they don't carry anything for the first gen!!
    Appreciate your help guys.

I used kicker 6x8s in all 4 of my doors with the factory brackets, use a drimmal and cutting wheel to cut the old speakers out and to open up the back of the stock mounting plate. You might be able to make 6x9s work aslong as the speaker depth is not to much

Hey, I appreciate the response. I'm trying to avoid doing any cutting. There has got to be some 6x9 plastic brackets out there somewhere.

Id give ********* a call. Im pretty sure they make brackets for 6x9 speakers. They can tell you exactly what all you need

Yeah I'll probably do that tomorrow. Looks like they focus primarily on 2nd/3rd Gens but You're right, they should know.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
    Does crutchfield.com have the answer?

I went to their website but the 6x9 selection states "does not fit". The 5x7 & 6x8 selection states "minor alteration". The only speakers that appear to come with brackets are the 5 1/4 speakers.

I got brackets for 6.5" for my front doors. you have to be careful because the depth is very short and the speaker covers on the door panel won't fit over the 6x9, it has a slight issue with the 6.5 (they were made to fit over the factory 5x8s)

I have 6x9s in mine. I just cut them down a bit to fit

    Thank you Jake!
To add to what Jake asked......when you say you cut the them down a bit, was that the outside of the speaker frame or door?

Believe it was the inside of the plastic mount. Its been a few years so I don't have the best memory of it lol

Just one cut. Took a dent amount of plastic off the mount. Idk if ours are any different though

Thank you for the response. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I contacted Josh at Taco Tunes but he wasn't aware of any aftermarket brackets.
Not related to this subject but I noticed your location is Panama City, FL. I grew up in Thomasville, GA which is only a couple of hours from PC. It was a tradition to always go to Angelo's Steak Pit!!

No problem! Angelo's steak pit is still kickin' even though it caught fire twice this summer lol

Fox 2.0 Coilovers in the front and Fox 2.0’s in the rear, Total Chaos UCA’s, Al-lpro expo leafs, K&N cold air intake, TRD headers,Magnaflow catback exhaust,URD short throw shifter, switched out my 60/40 bench seat for some Tacoma Limited seats, Replaced the vinyl shift boot for a leather one, completely soundproofed the cab w/ Frost King. Replaced stock radio with a Pioneer AVH series head unit. Focal component system w/a 10" sub powered by 2 Alpine amps. Weathertech floor mats. Line-X'd the bed. SCS Ray 10’s, Installed an A.R.E. MX series camper shell. All-Pro Apex front bumper w/ All-Pro skid plates all the way back to the Trans. Low Range fuel skid plate.
When I was setting up my audio system I was really wanting some bigger speakers for the door. I found 6.5’s on Crutchfield but they were for the kicker panels not the door panels. There were a few videos on people making their own with wood/fiberglass but that takes waaaay too much time.
