I just got my first permit to be able to purchase a pistol and I've been looking at different ones and Ive been looking at 3 different 9mm. The three I'm looking at is the S&W shield, beretta nano, or ruger lc9. Not really heard anything bad on the shield, nano doesn't have a slide lock and you have to have a screwdriver or casing to take the gun down. The ruger everyone talks bad about the trigger pull. I'm eventually gonna take a concealed carry class and probably carry in a inside the waistband holster. What are everyone's thoughts on these three? I haven't held any of them yet. I asked my wife the other day how much does she think we should budget for me to get a handgun and she said $200. I know I had this look like WHAT??? Obviously she doesn't know how much they cost but she said as long as it shoots. I'm like $200 can only buy a .22 pistol maybe.

Glocks are great. check g19 or g17 see which fits your hand better. I wanted a 19 for smaller size but it didnt fit right. got a 17 and love it.

also new budget or look for used gun. buying a cheap new gun will get you a cheap gun, then you will spend more on a decent one. buy what you want and tell her it cost what she wanted it to.

If carrying is in your future a Glock 19 or similar is probably as big as you'd want to lug around/conceal....G26 not a lot better. A Kahr CM9 or PM9 is probably my favorite concealed carry pistol, but not practical for general, all around "one gun" use. My vote if you're going to own one pistol only is a Glock 19. I've heard great things about the Shield as well too. Go shoot several if able.

Def a adjusted budget. My first pistol was a Glock 22 and I liked it. That is until I shot a HK USP 40 and a Sig. I've got a Sig P239 and an HK45 now and love both guns! If $200 is your budget now, take it and start saving for what you want. Go to a range and rent a few of theirs and see what suits you but whatever you do, do not compromise and go with something you'll end up not liking.

Yeah the $200 is my wife's budget but mine is $450ish. How much do the glock costs. I've read about the 19 and the gen4 26 I think

9mm glocks, g17, 19 and i dont remember what the subcompact number is are 5-600 new. If you have something like armslist.com where you live check that, may be able to find a used one for around your budget. g17 is the full size 9mm 19 is mid, and the other i cant remember is the subcompact 9mm.

I'll echo this. I have a P239 and I can't speak about the P938 but the Sig classic line are very simple pistols. I completely took my P239 down to the frame and cleaned it and re-assembled it with no issues.

OP....you're in NC, home of fort Bragg and camp lejeune. Check out armslist, you will find used pistols, probably well cared for/like new, and be able to bargain pretty easily. I know, I used to be stationed next to lejeune.

you can get turn in glock 22s for $350 pretty readily. like already mentioned, go to a shop, talk to your friends, hold, fondle, shoot as many as possible.

^i've owned and carried a shield 9. call us what you want but the glock works for me. I also dont like DAO trigger of the LC9 and nano's trigger is lacking as well.

Nothing wrong with Glock, think they are pretty good guns and I never had an issue with my G22
