I bought a 2006 Access Cab, 5 speed, 4wd, 4 cyl. Truck has a couple very very minor scratches. Truck had 101k on the odometer. It came with pacer bullet hole wheels (doubt that adds much value). I paid $13,500 from a private party seller, and a clean carfax. Just looking to find out if I did ok on my purchase.

I know, I know, it is the not so appealing desert sand color. But finding these trucks with these options are hard to find where I live. So far I have blacked out the badges and did a CB install. In the near future I will tint the windows, rhino line the rockers, get some black wheels or paint what I have, and get some better rubber put on. Hoping to make the truck look more "militaristic" (if that's a word) with the black accents. Hope the pic uploaded since this is my first one.

Thanks guys but that color definately wasn't my first choice. I don't think it's a trail edition. Hell I think the TRD decals were put on there, I don't think 4cyl have TRD packages. It's just a plain jane truck, manual everything, but that stuff is no concern to me. I work with it to haul around my lawncare equipment and do odds and end jobs on the side, and that's pretty much it. I have a 1993 corolla with 231K miles that I drive to my real job and it runs like a rolex.

Personally, I also like DSM. It's also great wheelin' color because it hides the scratches and dirt better than any other color out there.

All your plans sound good - but please do be aware that rhino-lining the rockers is definitely an "acquired taste" and will make the truck harder to sell and reduce the amount of money you can get for it, should you ever need or want to sell. So think long and hard before you commit to that one.

Nice truck and welcome to TW.

Well I bought this truck to keep, I had a 97 ext cab 6cyl tacoma that I wish I had kept but I went to the dark side and the full size truck bug bit me. Sold that chevrolet and bought this truck. I love the fact I get 20+ mpg all the time and not 13-15. This truck will be kept until it breaks in half. I only work with it and that's the only time I drive it basically. This truck will be with me for a long long time. You can't beat the ruggedness and depedability of these trucks. I was 16 when I bought that 97 tacoma (65K on the odometer), and being a 16yr old, I dogged that truck and It ran with zero issues, sold it at 135k and it's still running great with 193k? (I know the guy I sold it to). So the rhino liner on the rockers is something that I really like and I do need it with some of the stuff I drive through. Any other mods that people have done that they serve a purpose? (don't like adding stuff just for looks) also, anything that needs to be checked on these gen 2's?

I'd say you didn't do bad. Looks like a nice truck. I'm usually partial to black wheels, but I like those on that truck. Only I don't like is the fact the previous owner threw TRD OR decals on there. Not your fault though.

    Welcome to TW!

I like the color, there are not that many out there. Should last a long time. Good luck with it and welcome to TW.

I like that color best myself. Buying used, you don't always get to pick...

You seem to have made out ok on the purchase. I'd lose the TRD decals, but that's just me.

Nice truck, you can make gold look good. And as said before it hides scratches pretty well. Mines a gold '04

I paid 17,500 for mine with 40K on it at the end of 2009. At the time it was the best deal I had found. It was smoked in, that was the only bummer about it. Not sure what that's worth in blue book value. Can't really tell now other than the one burn hole on the driver's seat. I still feel like I got a deal.

The color will grow on you. I love that I don't have to wash mine for it to look good.:D
