I may not have been driving for 20 years, but I've driven in snow all my life and learned to drive in general in the snow. I don't have a problem with the mechanicals myself. In 2wd with the TC off the truck wants to fishtail when you even think about giving it throttle. With it on, I have no problems putting the truck where I want it. And no problems whatsoever in 4wd. Only reason I see to disable any of that stuff is if you're trying to have some fun. But I'll have to play around when we get snow again to really see what the truck does with and without this stuff.

The Impala SS I had before this I occasionally had to turn the TC off though in the snow, but that thing was a whole different animal being a FWD V8 with 303hp and on shitty tires haha. But I never had a problem getting around in that either.

just found out my 08 dc offroad sucks ass in 2wd. (its nice in 4wd)Has plain open rear diff , and I cant use the locking diff. while driving down the road, and I dont have trac. control. Not as practical in snow while on the street, but nice when your stuck in the mud. I have not come across too many mud bogs on the highway though.

I want to know how the electronic LSD comepares to the Chevy G80. I'm used to how the G80 functions (mechanical LSD) So when in 2wd and everything is normal, what will the rear diff do if the drive tire slips? will it lock the other tire in like the G80 did or do i have to punch a button.

My belief is it's 90% driver and 10% vehicle, don't ever depend on a mechanical stuff ie: truck, cars, machinery, electronics. You are the brain, you make the call, if you can't do it who well?

In my 2010 4x4 TRD Off road, Just press and hold the same button for 3 seconds while its stopped or in N. And you can do 360 all day long, computer wont bother you as long as you are below 30mph.

    enough to get me there
That explains it all. I was wondering why my throttle was being adjusted randomly every time I was speeding down the trail this weekend. I thought my truck had some electronic issues. Thanks. You saved me a trip to the dealer.

When you press the button once the lsd comes on and the vsc turns off, but when you go over 30 the vsc comes back on.

if you press and hold the button for 5 sec when you start the truck it turns the vsc off period. It doesnt come back on over 30.

That electronic crap saved my dumb ass 2 days ago.

I came over a hill in very slick conditions (snow, ice, -5F). I was doing at least 40. As I crested I saw lots of stopped cars just ahead of me in a very steep downhill (red light). I hit the brakes, but it was no use since I was going straight. I did the math and knew I would take out 4 cars and push us all into a busy intersection.

Solution: turn. I turned left and went over the median. There was no traffic at all on the other side of the road. I continued on into a driveway after that, just off the road.

Result, one pile of shit in my pants (figuratively) and alignment slightly messed up. $89 to fix. Much better than killing someone.

I repeat, I was a dumbass for going too fast for the conditions. I guess I felt invincible with all the traction my 4wd was getting. That electronic crap will let you TURN in an emergency, though. If I had turned it off earlier I would have just done 360's into the traffic ahead.

I don't understand your post. If you're serious, try rewording your sentence structure.

    You're very welcome. :)

Mine too, and according to Toyota literature that's the prescribed behavior.

    :yay:

I too have been saved by it while running too fast on gravel roads and I completely agree, it will let you turn fast in an emergency without loosing control of the truck. Good job Toyota!

The experience in the 2009 models is that VSC will reactivate automatically at speeds greater than 30 mph (excluding 4WD-LO). Check your 2010, you may be surprised.

I did read the manual. If you read the thread i posted i argued with Gixxer73 until he had me try it. I will post a picture of my dash at 65 with the vsc off if youd like...

Any idea on how to permanently disable the beeper in the dash?
It's friggin' annoying to listen to it when AC/DC Black Ice is playing.

Wow, all the crying about stability, traction control, etc
Did you not research the truck before buying it??
I think its great we have these systems usually reserved for luxury sport cars.
Plus im in the middle of my third snow storm this month. The system works great!!!
It does what its designed to do. If yours doesnt, get better tires. As far as the beeping, it doesnt bother me. I consider it my fun indicator, because if its going off im the one probably causing it. But if im not the one causing it , it probably just saved my ass.
    So shut up, and drive!
