Hello all I need some quick advice.
I am looking to run 35s on my 2nd gen tacoma with 2.5" lift. I plan to do all the necessities (BFH/CMC/Deep Fender Cuts). However.... the local tire place is 1.5 miles from the shop that is going to do the work for me. Do you think I would have any problems driving the taco the short distance with the new tires to the shop so they can start the reduction process? The other option is to take the taco to the shop and then take the wheels off and bring them over to get redone and then back to the shop, also I took my fenders off and i have a front bumper. Im hoping I can limp over without causing too much damage, but Im not sure. Thanks in advance!

Is cutting and clearance the fenders first not an option?

If the drive is in a straight line with no bumps you'll be fine! :)

Jokes aside - You'll rub bad on the cab mount and likely tear your fenders off when you turn. If you've already trimmed for 285s, it won't be as bad (but still bad). The cab mount needs a massive chop - go all the way to the bolted on plate and you still might rub a little.

You could take the fender flares off for the drive, but I guarantee you're going to snap half the tabs that hold them in place on the truck while pulling them off. I'm not sure how the shop plans to cut the fenders and flares, but they will likely pull the flares off anyway, so you might as well do it for them. Also, if you haven't already, you'll need to get more flare mounting tabs...or plan to bolt them on instead of using tabs (which is what a lot of guys do since the inner fender mounting points are going to either get cut off, or bent out of the way). I prefer the bend them out of the way method so you can go back to stock one day, but the cutting is more work if you go that route.

I'm speaking from experience here. I think most others with 35s go through the same. Good luck! 35's are sweet. Post up pics when it's all done.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I went to the shop and had them mount 2 to see how much clearance we had and they didnt want to let me take it off the lot, so I just had them mount them on the rear and brought the front two over later.

Lots of work to be done!! Were getting the lines figured out for the front fender cuts. Do people typically beat the pinch weld out (towards the fender flare) or in (towards the engine compartment)?

    Thanks!

I hope these help some. I hammered the pinch weld towards the outside of the truck. I think that’s what most guys do and results in the most space. I also sliced it in a few spots with an angle grinder to make it easier to hammer. I’m a skinny dude and hammered it over two days; it takes a fair bit of effort. If you 250 lbs and all muscle I’m sure it’s a lot easier.

I also wrapped my sledge hammer in plastic sheeting to try and not scratch the paint, but still ended up scratching it. Then I plastidiped that whole area to make sure it didn’t rust. I think it looks better in black anyway since I’m leaving the fender liners out for now. That's why it looks all blacked out.

You can also see my CMC and my fenders. For the CMC, I cut, replated, then bashed it inwards with a sledge hammer. For the fenders, I’m running bushwhackers and took 1.5-ish inches out of the flares and 1.25 inches out of the fenders. BUT – I’m running a 1-inch body lift, which helps a ton with that (it doesn’t help at all with the CMC). You'll also see that I bent back the tabs that hold the stock fenders on. That's so I can go back to stock. If you do that, you need to score the paint where you're bending it back to avoid the paint chipping badly. I did all that with a jigsaw, but kinda wish I used a Dremel, which would have been slower but more accurate.
I’m not a hard core wheeler, but I hit the trail and never rub on the fenders, but sometimes do on the CMC (usually in reverse while on uneven ground).

If you search around on here there are some other write ups that explain this a lot better. Also happy to answer any question you have.

Are you rubbing the way you have your fenders cut?

Leave your current set up on there, throw the new ones in the bed and the once it’s there they can put them on and start chopping away.

You don’t need to trim near that much. I did 1.5” iirc and it was plenty.

The right tools make it easier! In this case, kinetic energy is your friend. Took me 20 minutes and a 20lb demolition hammer. The bottom of the pinch welds took about 5 hits to flatten.

The correct order to do this in. Trim, cut, clearance >> regear >> mount tires >> go wheel

Trim, cut, clearance >> regear >> mount tires >> go wheel >> rub a bit >> trim some more >> go wheel >> rub even more >> question your decision to go 35s >> trim even MORE >> go wheel >> rub a lot >> fuck these I’m going to 33s >> trim even more >> question your trucks structural integrity >> go wheel >> be rub free. Maybe.
