[Fixed, I think] What is this sound!? I don't think it is normal.

My dealership indirectly confirmed the OEM Bilsteins are causing the noise. They already replaced them once, and since I'm now at 50K miles they will not do it again. No point really, since it will come right back. Left with the option of replacing the parts myself with 5100s or a different brand. Mostly the issue is very annoying and I can even feel the pop vibration through the floorboard. It's minor but I wish it was not there.

So replacement with the same brand can help? I'm also debating rather I should change to the 5100 also, but wonder if the same problem will come back or not.

the OEM Bilstein replacement only fixed the issue for about 6 months, and it returned. Most people have success with the 5100s they say. I'm not sure what brand I will use if I repair it again.

I had this issue and was lead to believe it was LCA bushings. I replaced the LCA's (so new bushings and ball joint) and it doesn't make the noise nearly as often. It only makes that noise now with larger articulation of the front end. I have 5100s that were put on a year ago at ~170k miles.

Going to check cab mount and rad mount next...

Also, unrelated: I have new calipers that rattle as if the bolts are not torqued down all the way (they are). The noise only happens on the driver side too. :bananadead:

Radiator support mount. Check to see if the rubber is degraded.

best view is to take the grill off. takes about 2 minutes: it's a few plastic clips. If you still can't see it, take the front bumper off. that takes 10 minutes.
honest. I just did it to fix some bumper damage and damage to the headlight mounts this weekend. A little bump from a stump I misjudged pushed everything up and cracked a bunch of plastic crap, but all holding well after some plastic weld and epoxy. It Took longer to read the directions then to actually take the grill and bumper parts off.

My radiator mounts were fine: just peeked at them since I had the whole front off.

Circling back to this thread. It's the front suspension, mine was the exact same as the video. Then dealer replaced front shocks, noise stopped. Then the same sound returned 9 months later. Just installed a new aftermarket suspension and the noise is gone!

Wow.... I thought that was a normal sound like everything else on my ‘17 taco sport. I hear that noise in front going over bumps or exiting in and out of parking lot ramps.

I usually have the radio on high to ignore the my problems and drive on. Looks like I’ll drop my taco to the speakership so it can be reported into the turd gen files.

OK, how about this? 2019 TRD Off-Road. I literally picked it up from the dealership Saturday. I haven't even owned it for a week. It's clunking when I hit a bump driving around town. It sounds like someone is knocking on the floor under the passenger front seat. The truck has less than 300kms (190 miles) on it. I'm not even through the first tank of gas! My previous vehicle was a diesel leaf sprung 93 Landcruiser and it didn't make any noises like this. Kind of irritated by this.

I will say I just replaced radiator support mounts and it didn't fix my truck, although the mounts were degraded. I believe it is the driver front strut on mine now.

I have been experiencing same noise as in original thread video. The shop that did my alignment told me it was cv axle that was sliding back and forth. When the control arm compresses and decompresses from going into driveways it puts the pressure on the axle causing the noise. I was told that he could fix it or take it to Toyota as it should be covered under warranty. Brought it into Toyota only to be told that they cannot duplicate the noise. Even though my alignment tech heard it as soon as he pulled it out of driveway. Dealer told me to wait until they allow ride alongs again to see if we can re-create noise when technician is in truck too. Dealer also said that the movement in the cv axle was normal. Still had to pay a diagnostic fee even with no diagnosis.

Same noise here. I've been living with this for years. I upgraded to 5100's like 7 years ago and didn't have the noise just wanted the upgrade and lift adjustability. After a few years I was getting the dreaded click or clack noise when I hit a dip or something. At one point I put the stock shocks on and no noise. So about 4 years ago I put on a set of Bilstein 6112's on and no noise until about a year or two ago. I go back and forth saying oh well it's no big to dammit this pisses me off. Long story short I've taken the LCA's apart and lubed the bolts and torqued the shit out of them many times. I've had the sway bar out then put it back in. Lightly had the brakes on while hitting the infamous dip. Always happens when the front end compresses. I was going to change the Rad support bushing and had them almost out but honestly didn't look that bad so just holding off for now. I mean the noise goes away when I change the shocks? The top mounts never look bad for me but I put a new set on this last time. But the shocks don't look too bad so WTF is causing the shocks to make this noise. I dont really want to spring for another set of 6112's because otherwise they still work great. Back to living with it? or maybe get a set of 5100's? Has anyone replaced the lower shock bushings only? Maybe I should spring for something other then Bilstein's?
