Alright so this past week I rode in my first FJ and the first thing I noticed was that cool little piece of offroad gadgetry that is on top of the dash. it has a little compass, a temp gauge and some type of approach angle thing. I thought it was amazingly sweet and I immediately wanted one for my truck, so now the question remains, has anyone done this? Could it be possible? Pictures included

i'm thinking you'd have to tap into the feed that goes to the overhead temp, the compass and gyro may just need power...subbed as i look more into it.

if you attempted a search of "fj gauge", you would have found my thread from a few years ago. it can be done, but is no easy job. i no longer have my truck and never did get the gauge pod to be fully functional.

here's my thread on toyotanation as well:

Here's a thread of a member that is no longer on toyotanation and was a toyota employee that got it to work successfully:

Must have missed it because I did search! So it looks like it would just be too much wiring for my lack of skills....oh well

hmm. never heard of that issue before. if someone ever wanted to put other gauges in it, they'd be better off buying a universal gauge pod. there would need to be a ton of modifications done to the fj pod to fit other gauges.

useless, but a neat idea if you have the time and money to waste.

The truck already has a clock and compass.
There are various aftermarket dial gauges you can put for off road angle, elsewhere, minimally obtrusive. For cheap.
Maybe a bubble level somewhere for camp parking. That's what I would do. Much cheaper and easier than trying to make something fit that's like $200 minimum used.

Sure, I get that. Maybe I’m just weird and dig the obtrusiveness and factory look of the FJ inclinometer setup. Amber backlighting matches amber dash lights.

I have been wanting to do this too, but even on ebay those gauges are $200+ so that's deferred me

That’s no all that bad, honestly. I’ve spent more on less before.
