I'm serious about gaining information! Probably wouldn't happen until the spring/summer if it was going to happen!

That is a really badass truck though

The fj case will mate to the 5 speed without any changes, I added the crawl box after the fact. If you need more info you can check out my build or pm me. Wyatt at RST is the expert on these swaps.

OK came across this thread while looking for other information and wanted to clear somethings up for some guys.

The transfer case out of the automatic transmission FJ Cruiser will work in the 2.7 5 speed 2nd gen and the 4.0 automatic 2nd gen. Both have the 23 spline input shaft.

If you want to put the FJ Cruiser t case into your six speed Tacoma then you'll still get the t case from an automatic trans FJ and swap out the planetary gear sets and the large rings on the planetary gearsets to make it work. Your six speed t case has the larger 22 spline input that you'll need in your new FJ T case.

YOU CANNOT USE THE TRANSFER CASE FROM THE SIX SPEED FJ CRUISER AS IT IS A FULL TIME CASE WITH A CENTER DIFF LOCK.

Here are a couple of links to help you out and if you need more info you can register at RockSolidToys and ask all the questions you have running in your head. I'll be happy to answer them all if I can.

Yes, I know. It's more than a couple of links but I wanted to get you guys as much info as I could.

If you have any questions please ask over on RST as I'm rarely here. I just don't have enough time in the day to monitor all this stuff.

So does this mean that the 2.7L 5spd and the 4.0L (with automatic trans) are the same and thus interchangeable?

What all this means is that the 5 speed and v6 auto have the same interface between the transmission and transfer case, so the transfer cases swap. The front ends where the transmissions bolt to the engine are different, and the transmissions don't swap.

Thank you, that's what I figured. I'm not looking to swap the transmission. Just the transfer case. I have a V6 auto and the tcase is on its way out. I can locally get another case from a 2.7 for cheap but wanted to make sure it bolts up before pulling the trigger
