Flashing Brake Lights

In truth. Motorcycles suffer more accidents from being rear ended at stop signs or stop lights. This isn't an internet myth, many studies have been done attempting to improve motorcycle safety and reduce accidents.

Common practice for motorcycles is to tap the rear brake to flash the brake light. This helps get the attention of the oncoming traffic. It also helps the oncoming driver to gauge the closing distance. Drivers do not notice motorcycles, because their brain is conditioned to register large 4 wheel vehicles.

I'm not in favor of flashing brake lights on 4 wheel vehicles, but on motorcycles (IMHO) it should be a requirement in the FMVSS.

BTW, never ride in the center of the lane. This is where all the schmutz (oil, antifreeze, rocks, dirt, crap) migrates. Stay in the wheel tracks, these are cleaner. Preferred position is the LEFT wheel track.
