If you do it right, they’re super versatile, especially if you’re handy with fabrication. Trouble is where do you store all the accessories when not in use

Here is my flat bed tray build…. First fabrication project.
    materials cold rolled steel
    2X5x1/8 in sq tube
    2x2x11gauge sq tube
    1 3/4 in rnd tube
    14 gauge sheet
    Dimensions
    6ft long x 5’4” wide
welding process FCAW and a hell of a lot of grinding lol
Inspired by Australian style Ute trays for off-road touring and work trucks.
I’ll be posting more pics as I get closer to finishing it. I’ve got the bumper with recovery points and toe hitch, fenders to cover the tires and powder coat the whole thing. The taillights are reproduction Toyota fj40 taillights with bulbs and I’m going to splice the original wiring harness connector to the new lights so it’s plug n play.

    man, that is super stout.

only thing missing would be some 3" plate on the inside of the sides to be able to connect in a 2" ratchet strap with flat hooks

with the large bend radius of the tube, you wouldn't be hurting the straps all too much.

@700cinema looks good. Interested to see what you do with the fuel filler neck and your fender design.

It’s probably gunna be 100 150 pounds over stock bed but I wanted some weight back there on my allpro expo springs the ride has been stiff since I deleted my shell and decked drawers.

And regarding the tie down points I stick with the inner tube as a way to keep everything clean and a unique design the straps I’ll be working with work well when hooked onto themselves and around the tube.

Nice! great work man! what is that round bushing/washer thing that you used to as part of the mount? I don't have a build of mine but check it out. I went for sturdy but also wanted to keep weight down for the camper I'm building.

Are we talking about something like the OEM rubber bed mat where it's an inch thick or something like a toolbox mat?

Bulk material to be cut to size. I like the textured ones used to line utevtray canopies. But all I can find have holes ️ and I’m worried the sun will bake and leave a pattern.

Try Tractor Supply they have rubberized mats for horse stalls. Seen some folks here use it for bed mats so might be worth it to check out.
