IDK, but on my 2020, the up button is skip to the next track, not FF. I would love a 15 second skip function on the steering wheel instead of having to hit the arrows on the touch screen. However, the buttons are for next track, which is up or down on the playlist.

I use AA, I have not once used entune or the radio since I bought the vehicle. YMMV

I was just about to start a thread on this too lol! Bought my Tacoma in 2018 and I'm STILL not used to the button orientation! It's so stupid! It doesn't help also that my wife's car has it in normal orientation. What was Toyota thinking?

If I want to turn the volume up, I press UP, turn the volume down ill press DOWN. If I wanna change to the next song, I'll press RIGHT arrow, go back to the previous song press LEFT arrow. Just makes sense.

Whatever, if someone ends up fixing this, you are the GOAT! :D cuz I know it ain't gonna be me lol, wish I had that talent. My bet is on @MESO will somehow find a solution

I ended up selling my 2018 TRD DC OR Tacoma. That solved the problem. Of course that isn’t WHY I sold it!

After 3 years I still never got used to that configuration. I almost always had to look and think about which button to press to turn UP or DOWN the volume.

I NEVER HEARD A SONG THAT SAID “TURN RIGHT THE RADIO” or “PUMP RIGHT THE VOLUME”...stupid Engineers.

Thread revive.. I hope someone finds a fix to this one day. Terrible design. Such a small but extremely annoying issue lol.

Based on what I can tell from the quoted post, here's the schematic we care about.
    20221008_125455.jpg

With a little bit of magnet wire or some knowledge of board repair, it wouldn't take too much work to restructure. It doesn't appear to be an MLB, which is a good sign. The biggest bummer is finding out how to rotate the physical switch.

Somebody figure out how to correct this and sell it as a kit.

There are significantly dumber mods for sale run by garage based businesses. Somebody smarter than me needs do this and take my money.

Oh, and sell me an anytime factory e locker kit. I can’t figure out how to properly wire that either.

Just remount the steering wheel at 90 degrees.

Consider me dumb on all things electronic, but would it be possible to make a sticker with the button contacts on one side and the board contacts on the back that then overlays the stock board and that sticker just rotates things by 90 deg? So the button would stay the same, the board would stay the same, but instead of the back of the button touching the board, it touches a sticker that is insulating but the circuits then wire up to the other area?

The button isn’t the contact so that won’t work.

Hmm, so how does it close the circuits in the picture? Back of the button doesn't have a metal pad?

Ah, I see what you mean. The sticker would have to be wired to the board for that to work since pushing on one spot won’t close the contacts on the one you want.

    Exactly.
If you're still around and can stick a ruler on this pic, I can see if anyone in the shop can make something up.

If the back of a Mylar pcb were insulated everywhere except where vias could connect to the desired switch pads and soldered there then it would work. But it’s not plug/play and not many are interested in fiddly soldering. A whole new board would be more simple.

Subscribed. Thanks to the people posters for the schematic and photo. I'm assuming nobody has layed out a new PCB yet. I'll try to get my hands on a spare stock board and maybe get around to the project.
