It's not worth it, but yet I'm still thinking about it. Tried not to let it get to me but I just use the knob for volume now it bugs me so much.

Try bouncing between cars. My LC has left-right button orientation for both volume and tracks. My taco is like everyone else’s. My Kona is the opposite with down being next and up being previous track, and my EV is the same, except on the other side of the steering wheel. I always have to look at this point.

I would like access to Toyota’s code so I rewrite the user interface - there are a lot of improvements to be made- it feels like who ever wrote the original UI was in a hurry and it was deemed “good enough”

Does anyone have the pin info/configuration for the harness that plugs into the circuit board? Looks like the button can be installed with volume +/- in correct orientation. Should just be able to cut and swap output wires around to suit the new button position.

Been suggested multiple times. The circuit design does not work that way.

Think radio. Think frequency. Changing frequency is up down so now it makes sense. I got used to it. Seems to be too much work and risk to try to change it.

I adjust my volume far more often than I change stations. I dislike the OEM set up so badly that I rarely if ever use the steering wheel controls for the radio. I'd rather just reach over and turn the damned knobs.

I also get frustrated with non user friendly implementations. This one I can overcome. Hope it works out for you.

I have to think everytime I either change the station or turn up the volume - such a ridiculous design.

I did see a funny FB post on a Tacoma group. "Def Leppard came on the radio and upon cranking up the volume, the radio station went 10 pre-sets backwards"

I took me about a week to get used to the track/volume button orientation. And honestly, the more I use it, the more it makes sense why Toyota oriented the button in this manner. If you change to the music/source display on the digital display in the instrument cluster, an up/down orientation for changing tracks makes sense. The changing songs/tracks is up/down...changing between audio sources is up/down...changing radio stations is up/down. All that makes sense...the buttons mimic changing tracks/sources/radio stations in the orientation on the digital display.

The only thing I still have to think about is changing radio stations...down to get to my next preset is a bit non-intuitive if I'm looking at the infotainment display instead of the digital gauge cluster display.

While I can appreciate your understanding and support of maybe “why” Toyota did this, I’m having a hard time grasping a different why. WHY would a steering wheel control meant for convinience and SAFETY require or expect someone to take their eyes off the road in order to orient themselves to the screen so they canunderstand which button to press. ‍♂️

if you think about the natural progression of how a music album works. If I’m on song 2 and I want to listen to song 3, I have to go to the next song. If I want to go to song 1, I need to go to the previous song. I’d say that for 99% of the population that would mean left (previous) and right (next).
Now let’s think about volume. If I want the volume to be louder, that would mean I want the volume to go UP. (NOT right ) If I want to talk to someone in the cab and the music is too loud, I nead to make the volume go DOWN (not left ‍♂️) You know. Crank it UP!!! Turn it down. Next song. Last song.

TLDR: Toyota screwed this one up.
