    Greetings,
Has anyone had any luck using light weight floor jacks in lieu of a high lift? I’ve had many people tell me to leave the high lift at home.

High lifts can be great to jack you off a rock get out a difficult situation i would never use one as the sole lift if i needed to work on my truck on the trail. They are a valuable tool but unless you’ve practiced with it quite some bit in multiple situations I’d leave it at home. They can be very dangerous if used improperly. Honestly if you’re on the trail and legit broke and needed to get under the truck you’re going to want a few forms of assurance when working underneath the truck. I usually put the spare uner the frame right next to me if possible

Good advice. Maybe a couple of jack stands in the truck would be advisable.

Leave the high lift at home?! Nah! Just know how to use it and when.

As the name implies, however, it should be used to *lift* the vehicle, not support it. So if you need to lift it up to work under it, you sure as shit should pile up some rocks, etc... and not use it as the sole support.

High lifts can also be used as a winch, so don’t leave it home, just practice with it and know how to use it.

I wouldn’t bother with bringing jack stands, the likelihood that you’d be able to use them (safely) is pretty much nil while off road, unless you break something on flat level ground. high lifts at least are designed to use on uneven ground, jack stands are not.

I don't have a highlift yet, but I do keep a small floor jack in my recovery box, I also keep a plank with me for use with the jack as the few times I've had to use it have been on soft ground and without the board I just jack the jack into the dirt vs the truck off the ground.

I wanna take who ever told you to leave the hi lift at home off roading. Make no mistake, it is a RECOVERY TOOL ONLY. It can help with repairs, but it is not a repair tool itself. They don't call them widowmaker jacks for nothing. Knock your head clean off.

this is actually pretty genius, no need for a floor jack! Except i would still need to use mine on occasion for articulating the axle

I've done a mod or two
Depends on who you ask, floor jack will be fine for most things. Heavy shit I'd start to want something like a high lift. I didn't want to buy a boutique item like the Proeagle and still need my hilift so just opted to just learn to be super safe with the hilift and it has never let me down. I keep a single jack stand with me in my OSK. All the guys I wheel with keep a jackstand as well in case we ever need more than one. Highlift has always been good to us and allows lots of versatility for jacking points on an armored truck.

Used to carry a hi lift off roading everywhere. Used it often but realized that in every case a bottle Jack would have worked. The hi lift handle busted my eyebrow once too. Resulted in stitches.

The hi lift hangs on the wall now. I carry a bottle Jack and a platform for it.

I've seen people try to use a hi lift as a winch. They ended up using my winch lol. The only other thing I have seen it useful for besides a Jack was a big clamp.
