How's it going Florida folks, I wanted to stop by here and say a quick hello. I live in Gainesville and I just picked up a '10 and am in love with it already. I haven't had a 4X4 since high school and look forward to having this one for a long long time. Took it out for a little trail riding the 2nd day I had it, it was just a little too clean lol.

Yeah, I would love to but it's a little short notice for this one. I will definitely be looking to meet up with fellow wheelers in the future though. Thanks for the invite.

Colin, I think it was you that was talking about degreasing and greasing the XRC winches. Would this work to grease with? Or would you go with white lithium?

Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?

I did my XRC8 a year ago with that same grease. No complaint's, works great and way easier to pull line.

Make sure to have lot's of gloves, paper towel and brake clean; the original grease is a pain to remove

Edit: I think I soaked the gears in mineral spirits to clean them.

    Guy,

Thanks! Forget to brake clean and the nearest auto parts store open today is a 35mile round trip. Guess I won't be doing that today.

yeah, that grease will work just fine

yeah, lots of gloves and paper towels.

i cut up a big cardboard box to law on the table and use as an easy-cleanup working area.

i didn't use any solvents. just cleaned them the best i could with the paper towels. if you are looking for something to soak them in though without making another trip out, gasoline will work. you don't need it though.

also, there are very fragile paper gaskets between the parts of the gear housing that you will be pulling apart. they will probably tear, but you can reuse them without issue. however, i opted to remove the paper gaskets completely, and used a bead of silicone around the edges to reseal it. if you go this route, just put a bead around the outside, bolt it together, and let it cure. after it's cured. take a razor blade around the edge to cut off the excess that got squeezed out. it's a lot less messy than trying to whipe it up when it's still wet.

Mike, Jess, and Will (when he's here) all live near UCF, in Avalon Park.
