Not sure which sub forum is the best place to put this, but since a lot of us second gen guys are talking about it, this looks good. Feel free to move this if there is a better forum.

i'm going to coat my frame with fluid film this fall, has anyone tried using the aerosol cans for this? i no longer have a compressor so i can't use a spray gun. i just wasnt sure if the aerosol version of this sprays more like lithium grease in just a straight stream or if it sprays similar to aerosol paint for nice even coats. anyone use the aerosol version? i found 6 ans on Amazon for $66 or so with free shipping.

I sprayed my lawnmower deck with one. Kinda in between the two. More of a spray, but the stuff is heavy so it isn't quite even.

The cans have a heavy mist/spray without the little straw. I think it coats pretty well. Also, if there is an oreillys in your area, they now carry fluid film, dont know the cost yet.

It will spray fine with a Wagner electric paint gun they are high pressure about $70 at the big box store a standard paint gun will not spray it. I use it on every thing farm equipment. cars/trucks even my leather boots. It's about $50 a gallon that is enough to do your truck 3 times and if you don't go crazy maybe 4.

They do smell kind of funny but my Great Danes don't seem to care. They however are quite water proof.

Just finished applying fluid film out of the aerosol cans. It worked well. Sprays similarly to wd-40, rustcheck, etc but is thicker.

Pressure washed the dirt and mud off the frame, lowered the spare and let it dry overnight. I had three cans which did the job but next year I will get four in order to have a little more to work with. I read on a few posts that the smell is terrible. I didn't find it too bad but working outside likely helped.

It is difficult to get every nook and cranny but I am hoping this will make the truck last longer. All in it took about 2hours including pressure washing.

I'm planning on doing this in the next month or so. From all my time under my truck, scraping and painting this summer, I'd like to point this out. The top of the frame rails as they run under the cab are nearly inaccessible. My plan is to spray the FF into a gloved hand and rub it up and over the rail. Alot of paint was peeling here, and I had to use a razor blade and scrape by feel.

I did some sanding and painting on my frame this summer. Gonna test out some fluid film for winter. Does this stuff not come off from pressure washing?

I pressure wash underneath my truck regularly in winter because they salt a lot around here. I guess I will test run a can of FF this winter and see how it lasts.

Well I obviously didn't read the can very well

What good is it if you can't rinse off road salt without rinsing off the product ?

Literature isn't 100% accurate. I got a free sample when they were giving them out on here and tested out a few areas. I had a few black pipe areas exposed on the exterior of my house that I sprayed, some parts on the inside of my tailgate where the seams were and were beginning to rust, and my trailer receiver. About a year and a half later, the black iron pipe looks great and still has an oily film, the inside of the tailgate is 'meh' but still doing ok and the receiver has no sign that I ever applied anything to it. I bought the full undercoat kit from Kellsport also but, after seeing my results, am on the fence about it. I think I'll use it since I have it, but I'm not convinced it's the best product for someone who already has a rusty frame. If you still have paint on your frame and want some extra protection, go for it, I think it's great for that but it WILL wash off with road spray or a pressure washer.

Oh, I also used it as a wax for the bumper and wheels. I would definitely recommend this stuff for that. It kept a shine for a while but again, washed off after a few washes.

I'm not trying to knock the product, I think it's great. It seems to have a lot of uses as a dielectric grease substitute and motorcycle chain lubricant but as an undercoating, it's not overly durable.

I wonder what PSI normal car wash wands run at , 1000 PSI seems high

So that seems to coincide with the PSI they recomnend for removal
