Yeah that was me discussing the fob keypress shutoff method. But thieves can plug a computer into your OBD2 port to circumvent the startup security, so the best advice would be to either park it in the garage (like many of us can’t do with our tall truck racks or small garages full of crap or the wife’s car), or park in a more secure location. I also use a harbor freight driveway alarm with a magnet stuck on back- it alerts me in my bedroom if someone is walking around the truck (mount it chest high, so cats can’t set it off).

It down's matter if you live in a place that is secure, or not. A great number of "smart-key" and push-button start vehicles, including the Tacoma, can be stolen by a relay attack within a few seconds. Organized crime targets the Tacoma, even in Canada. What the thieves do is to intercept the signal between the Tacoma and the key fob, and then program a blanck key fob with the signal they have recorded.

I don't like to fumble around pressing buttons to turn the key fob off. What my wife did for her new 2023 Tacoma was to buy a couple of Faraday bags from Amazon. In this case she can just place each of the two key fobs in the Faraday bag to block the signal. We live in a remote place in the interior of Alaska, and believe when I tells you that we are an "armed" neighborhoods, but even so nobody wants to find that the car or truck is missing when one gets ups in the morning. :)

A note of caution about Faraday bags: make sure that you put the key fob in the Faraday bag, after you exit your vehicle, because if you forget the now secured key fob and lock the door manually-by pressing the door lock button on the door-and forget the key fob inside the truck, you will lock yourself out of it.

Hidden fuel pump kill switch wired into the circuit is what i did in my jeep. Haven’t done one in my 4runner yet. I don’t think that would set off any codes as long as you switched it on before trying to start the car.

I live in a nice neighbourhood, hence the nice Taco, hence the place where thieves come to look for a Taco... :headbang:

I've got the club, but I hear they just cut the steering wheel now. I lock the remote, but they can work around that too.

If they want it bad enough, sorry but your phucked!
