Hey guys. The other day I noticed my fogs were not on. Then I looked closer and the silver reflective seemed to be all melted on both of them. It's bubbled up from the base of bulb to top of unit.

These are the Wide angle bulbs, stated in the manual. H11-55 watts-type B (halogen). I replaced the originals with same. (They were Nokya H11 55 watt) lasted 5 years.)

I checked the fuse and relay under the the hood. Don't think there is any more on my 2016 TRD Sport. (Tundras have one near drivers foot fuse box.)

Removed the RH fog assembly today.....could NOT remove bulb before I pulled the housing out. Seemed stuck..

The bulb looked fine from through the glass, but from behind it was all melted...

Could not remove the bulb. Had to smash it out... Sorry no pics yet but will send when the left one is removed.

I am now in the market for R and L fog light units. with or without bulbs.

Any idea as to what may have caused this...??

Honest, they were the same as OEM except for colour.

Really sorry for no pics, but I was so involved at the time and rain was coming.

    John

I have a spare left one. I'm not sure if shipping to Ontario from here will save you money?

Dang that’s weird! At least you can get replacement fogs cheap, either here or Craigslist.

Not the same as TRD. SR and SR5 have standard fogs vs TRD have wide angle

What is the part number on the fog light housing? Do you have a picture of the back of the housing? If these are the black plastic wide angle bases for H11 I would check my connector for signs of overheating, signs of a poor connection. The gray non wide angle bases are for H16 19W bulbs, though I think some have put H11 55W bulbs in them I don’t know how these hold up to the higher heat.

Yeah, I run em most of the time...

They are the wide angle 55 watt that are standard on the TRD's.

Thanx a lot Grey Bald... those are the 19 Watt lights that come on SR, sr5, etc......

I've now ordered from Amazon a set for the TRD's

Thanx a lot guys,,,,, I'll get back with pics, etc when I get the new ones and make the install......

    2 weeks maybe......

My 2020 trd came with h16 19w bulbs in them from the factory. Switched to 35w h8 and have had no issues, just had to do some minor trimming of the tabs like the h11 low beam upgrade.

Not that it should cause an issue, but maybe running them all time created an issue. Fog lights are meant to be used as auxiliary lighting when needed, not used 24/7. Good to see @GreyBaldTaco could help out. Nothing a grey bald taco can't fix

Obviously heat is the issue. 2 things create heat that I can think of in this instance, one is resistance in wiring (bad connections), other is some bulbs just burn hotter that others. This is usually due to cheap manufacturing or that the wattage is slightly more than advertised, as everyone is after more light and some manufacturers play to that. Also remember a 55w yellow light is a lot dimmer to the eye than 55w white, and people assume wattage equals light output.

Mutley, Sir. It appears you are spot on in your diagnostic ability. It's clear from the close up pic...that heat was the issue.

But the mystery is this.....Why did these 2 bulbs overheat at the same time. They both went out within a day..!! No fuse blows either...
